Hi there
While working on my Staghound model, I realized I have no information on the piping for the auxilliary fuel tank. There's a cap on top of the tank, but the fine overhead photo provided by Marco on this group doesn't show any lines coming from it. Was it at the bottom? Steve

Hi Steve,
Hereby a scan showing some jettison-tank details. This photo shows a "mirrored" side view from both tanks. The fuel-outlet lines are connected to a quick-release coupling at the bottom from the tanks and from there go sideways through the hull. The fuel line is protected by a odd-shaped armoured cover mounted on the hull, just behind the tanks. Best regards, Marco

Here is a second scan, showing more detail on the release mechanism and holding straps.
If you need more details, please let me know, I have the straps and a late model jettison tank (also shown on this photo) to take dimensions from. Hope this helps, Marco

The first scan is from "Standard Nomenclature List No G122" and the second scan from the "T17E1/E2 Armored Car Product Notes" As far as I know, these publications are not available commercially. If you need certain details, you can let me know so I can see if I have these and make a scan from my manuals. TM9-741 is available on CD (Ebay) and also on paper from Groucho Publishing, who also have TM9-1741B and C. Best regards, Marco

Hi Marco,
Thanks for the info, it seems very expensive on e.bay and I searched Groucho Publishing from Google, their website was closed. I found VMVM Amercian Manuals' website, there is no price list. However, I just want to see the following views: 1) Upside down structure of chassis and the same structure interior view. 2) The front axle 3) The transfer case area. 4) I saw some pictures of New Zealand's early vision Staghound in Italy, they modified the commander hatch(left side of turret) to be front opening, it looks like a map table. Hello Kurtis, Steve,
I have some photo's from Polish Staghounds with the commanders hatch opening to the front. These photo's show no detail on the hinges. What I think is that the original hinges were used, and these were mounted on the front edge of the hatch. Therefore, 4 holes had to be drilled in the hatch, or the hinges could be welded on the hatch. The only thing to do then is weld two blocks with tapped holes on the turret to mount the hinges. Attached is a top view from an early type Staghound. Sorry for the quality, the manual has been in a fire in the past. More to come. Best regards, Marco

Here is the first photo from the double-reduction front axle.
It was build specially by Chevrolet for the T17E1/E2. It is really massive, many of the parts being to heavy to be handled without lifting equipment. Wheel bearing diameter for example is 165 mm and the diameter of the brake drums is 16 inches. Marco

Hi there
The model is the 1/72nd scale RPM kit. I've done a lot of detail work on it to bring it up to competition standard. It is marked as a Staghound I of the RCD's in Italy. Steve

Beautifull model Steve!
I think building/painting these models is a special art, I have one from Accurate Armour which took me weeks to finish and I haven't even painted it. Maybe my fingers are to big or shaky for this work. Kurtis, I found one sketch in the Staghound manuals showing the bottom of the rear side of the hull. Again, it is an early Staghound lacking the large inspection cover underneath the transfer case. Best regards, Marco

Hi Kurtis,
The two square holes closest to the camera are the inspection openings underneath the transfer case. Through this holes it is possible to adjust the parking brake mechanism and also to (dis)connect the speedometer cable. Normally these holes are covered by one plate of 1/4" thickness, approx. 60 cm's long and 20 cm's wide. Behind these two holes, another two can be seen. These holes are below the transmissions and are also covered by rectangular plates. Marco

Beautiful Staghound to a great Regiment!! Small point- There are no "RCD's" only RCD. Royal Canadian Dragoons's just doesn't sound right! ![]() Which reminds me: Who here has offered to recover the Winchester Bog Stag for the RCD? I'm likely to be tapped by the DCO tomorrow to be involved in this recovery. regards Darrell |
