Default Something is wrong here

Three times today I have gotten emails saying that a forum I subscribe to, this one, The Softskin Forum, has recieved a response. One from Stellan, one from GWB and just a minute or so ago one from Hanno.
None of the three posts ever appeared, not on this PC nor the other three at the house nor at my shop and neither on MSN or Firefox.
Any ideas???
Bill

OK, I will try to answer my own post with more info.
Stellan posted an answer to the "Something for Stellan" thread
GWB posted an answer to the Volvo Canada History thread
Hanno posted an answer to the Swedish Umbau thread.
None of the three appear when I pull up this site.

Bill, from my own experience, methinks the auto-notification function is a bit wonky. I had it running on a couple of threads and then discontinued it... but it didn't stop working. Then a while back it stopped by itself.

I'll keep an eye on that.

OK, Geoff:
Just didn't want to miss anything. In looking back on those three threads, there were responses from all of you on each of the subject threads so maybe your auto notification thingie is just picking random responses and resending them.
Thanks,
Bill

Geoff, methinks the auto-note is wonky as I've had notuifications lately as well of posts that I didn't even respond to...

Bill,

You can also use the View New Posts function (at the right hand upper corner of the main page) to see which threads have been started/replied to since your last visit.

Regards,
Hanno

I'm guessing so, Chris... I didn't WRITE the software, just bought it! I might upgrade again soon, but only when I have more time.

BTW, here's another poser for you all... are the animated gifs still working here or is it just my machine? I was invaded by a host of spyware apps which it's been a bugger to clean out (I've had to buy ZoneAlarm), and the animated gifs here on the forum seem to have stopped working a week or so ago. I thought it was me... what do you all see?

Default The Invasion of the Site Snatchers

Geoff, I am really sorry but I think the playing field is not very level right now. To one degree or another, I am having problems on virtually every site I visit. Foxfire seems to be pretty invulnerable but I only use it some of the time. That may have to change. Everyone has their favourite anti spam/anti adware/anti virus software and I have no idea which one is better.
What I do know is that I am running scans with whichever ones I have up to three times a day and they catch something almost every time.
I fear the bad guys have got a little bit of the upper hand right now. I posted to you and Karmen my experiences, just got the invoice today (Ouch) and while I am not crippled, I am not clean unless I run constant scans.

What baffles me is that of the stuff I was getting two weeks ago, adware or spam, was 99.999% of absolutely no interest to me and, I suspect, of no interest to anyone. The only conclusion I can draw is that if they get 1% of the recipients to respond they must make money on it.

Well, plowing already plowed ground but I must say the internet was a lot more fun 3 or so years ago when all we had to worry about was the occasional virus that did not affect most non-business users.

Default Follow-up

Geoff:

Dear Lad, I fear you may have been well and truly hacked.

Since logging on at more or less 1700 hours your time, our time, I am getting constant messages to allow "cookies" from sites that have nothing to do with the MLU Forum and in a couple of cases I get the ad or popup anyway in spite of my protection software.

As an example, and not putting any blame at all on this forum, I ran my normal scans twice within about a half an hour and got multiple "hits" indicating someone is trying to infiltrate my personal computer.
Time to contact your provider?????
Really not trying to make problems, hope it gets sorted out.

Bill

I can't see how that's coming from MLU, Bill... I suspect you have been invaded by self-replicating spyware as was I. I highly suggest you have a look at ZoneAlarm as a possible solution.

I'll investigate internally here regardless.

Thanks,

Geoff

Geoff:
As this is apparently only happening to me, you are most likely correct, the problem is here not there (your site). It was perhaps only coincidence that I ran all my scans, got rid of whatever I had that time and then was only on your site when the stuff managed to get through the various blocking software.

As stated earlier, I think the Bad Guys are better than we are. I run four blocker programs now, each has worked 100% for a while and then I start getting invaded again. There just seems not to be one "Silver Bullet" that can handle all the crap that is getting put out.

Glad it is not your site that is causing my problems.
