Bob..
If I may make a suggestion...
Any MV trail rides or parades be schedualed for the before noon period...Saturday...Sunday..and then the vehicles parked so safe drinking may begin....NO vehicle movement once serious beer tasting goes into gear..
Just a "Good practices" rule that keeps everyone safe and legal..We don't need any "Incidents" that would draw negative ideas of comments from the local p[opulace over drunken army guys tearing up their flower bed..running over their chickens or god forbid their kids...
There have been such incidents of impaired operation of restored military vehicles at other events in the past and we don't need that at any BBB's ...
Of course non drinking members can drive any time ..

Just a thought but it would have to be written in stone by you..the hostest with the mostest..

Default Makes a lot of sense .......

..... not sure we have ANY non drinking members.....

In any event...... as we willbe driving our vehicles on my property..... we will do the driving before we access our coolers, beers, etc.....

So running my cab 11 on Saturday...... assuming it starts.... willbe before I drink anything stronger than a cup of tea.....

Driving, sober, in the open field will be done away from the encampment fire pit area and away from the kids.....

I will expect the same conservative behaviour from any one else attending.........

We will self police ourselves....... and if, like any one else, I forget I expect to be reminded.....

Bob

Default Booze and RATs

After force feeding rats large quantities of beer, US scientists determined that the resulting cancers were caused by too much beer.

Canadian and Australian scientists carried out double blind identical tests and determined that there was no such thing as too much beer; the simple conclusion was that the rats weren't tough enough!

Eight hours bottle to throttle!

Default No Wheels

If'n I can figger out how to get there, would a stubborn, recalcitrant asshole Torontonian be allowed onto the property to bring some charm and grace to your otherwise heathen gathering?

Oh yeah, and have you put out a call at Gracies for their fair young maidens to attend and add some REAL grace to your otherwise heathen, beer-swilling, fire-watching ceremony, or do you want me to bring up some Toronto hookers?

Thank you kindly. Bob, you're a fine gentleman in contrast to some of the unkempt hillbillys you allow onto your sacred soil. I shall do my best.

Ref CC6, I'm working on it, will know better tomorrow or Saturday... several factors at play here (amongst other things, I just got home after five weeks exile in Kemptville and Merrickville, so forgive me if I sound a bit confused). Will advise soonest.

Default next year

Kathy and I have been invited to another wedding in June next year, if all goes well here at home some of us from Yass are hoping to attend, Kathy might allow me to go out for an afternoon to possbily meet some of you people, the more people I meet and time I spend talking the more quilt shops I have to physicaly go into and show interest at all times.

Is there any gatherings that are organised around the Mount Forest area in May, June or july? Geoff will confirm that I'm house trained, just don't ask Kathy if I am.

G'Day, Max! Aye, I reckon the lads can set you up just fine. At the very least, CC7 will be in the works, and that's just up the road from you. We'll see what else we can cobble up in the interim - the summer OMVA show will also fall into that timeframe, as an example. Start your own thread in The Sergeants' Mess when you're solidifying dates etc, and we'll take it from there (Kathy may come to hate us, but what the hell, you only live once!

I have just been looking at a map of Ontario and Hammond might be a little to far for us this time but the get together at Chatswood looks like it might be possible. I surpose as we get closer to the time we will work times out.
Bob if you place your orders with salesman Bob we will see what we can do, and Geoff Kathy will love you when tell her where all the good quilt shops are.

Don't want to hijack the post here but....

My lovely bride to be Quebecois and myself are in the midst of a near north aquisition within the next couple months and I can see the possibilities of a gathering similar to CC or BB and was just wondering if another summer piss up would be in order for summer 2008???

We're talking North Bay Ontario region, just a hop, skip and a jump for our Ottawa and Montreal friends as well as those damn southerners from the wilds of Toronto and beyond...

Perhaps a feast of poutine, fresh pickerel and maybe some tarte au sucre for dessert? Might even ask uncle Boobie to provide that horrid concoction cretons as a side for brekkie next day.

Chris,

Rather than further threadjack Bob's topic, may I suggest you start a new thread to lay out your idea and gauge possible interest? Have you investigated the local MV community regards holdings and possible interest, for instance?

I will say only this, then the ball's in your court for follow-up: I welcome and will recognize and support any individual effort made by any of our membership to establish a show in their own stomping grounds mirroring the CC/BB operations. The requirements are loose but simple: that it not clash with any other show(s) which potential participants might attend; that proper accommodation and hygiene facilities be provided; that any necessary permits from local government(s) be obtained; that insurance issues be covered, either by the person(s) putting on the gathering or by the participants themselves; that the sale or consumption of alcohol to or by the vehicle drivers during the event be regulated while during the time when vehicles might be driven.

Common sense, most of it. Start small and build up - much more easily handled if kept within the 'family' until you're established (hell, I'm probably preaching to the converted, but what the hell). In any case, I'm sure others who have embarked upon this road will be happy to help with advce they've learned the hard way!

Good luck, Chris, and keep us posted.

Now, we need a show in southwest Ontario.....

Boobie et al;

I will have MLU stickers available at CC#6...

Geoff, I will start another thread to talk more of the possibilities.
As far as organizing and "starting small", you may remember that it was I that helped get John Adamiak's West End Meet going before his demise. Of course the usual rules would apply....

Boobie, yes, you may be very correct on the disappearance of the local relics as I have been and will continue to scour the countryside looking for elusive goodies. To that end may I say, I will always pass along good tips to others should I find anything of interest but perhaps not to my liking. Always willing to help out.
