Inner Hub Seals Required

Anyone have a source of inner hub seals for rear diff mounted hubs on an LP2?? Have looked at the thread for modern CMP part numbers & it does not show them. Mine crumbled on dissasembly. A normal seal can not be used as the original seal holder holds the seal out from the hub. Anyone?????

Rob, see this thread for the rear axle seal. It's possible that a Ford Aust dealer will have them in a catalogue, as I am lead to believe they were used up to the F600 of the mid 70s. Ross Prince also has lots of NOS seals, he may have these in stock.

The photo of the C01T-4702 looks very similer to the one which I need for the alligator hubs as the outed sprung steel part is broken.

Would you be willing to sell me some? Any chance you can give me the out side diameter and thickness just to be sure I may be able to fit this type as a replacment.

Hi Rob, When I stripped down my LP2 hups and all its bits I found that there were no oil seals at all, then I was given a copy of the spare parts catalogue for the LPs printed and published in Melbourne. The part in Question is BB-4245-B, the interesting part is that in brackets next to the part no is written ( not in all carriers) so I take that to mean that a few carriers had no oil seals what so ever. You'd have to make sure you didn't park the beast on a slope side on ! Cheers David...

On reading this thread I agree with Tony Smith....you need to read his previous thread about seals.

However, there seems to be some confusion about which seals that you are actually looking for. Perhaps it may help those in the know if you can give some part numbers.

Do you have the spare parts and shop manuals??

If it is the inner as I understand, Tony Smith's post lists one of the two seals that you will need.

According to the manual ( Spare Parts Manual )

BB-1175-C RETAINER - rear sprocket grease ( x2 )
BB-1180-C RING - rear sprocket grease retainer strap ( x2 )

Or the outer, as David Ellery posts

BB-4245-B RING - grease retaining ( not in all Carriers ) ( x2 )

Hope this is some help for those in the know to locate these parts for you.

It's this seal, p/n BB1175C stamped in it. Ford no longer service the seal, nearest listing I can find here was a Mack truck part number (same seal) that was special order ex USA no delivery time listed & no price. Darn. I am tempted to machine the folded lip off it & fit a conventional seal inside to overcome it's rarity. Anyone in the world of carriers purchased one of these seals reciently??????The outter seal I have an excellent condition one, not fitted to all carriers but good to have as it will limit the amount of diff oil that can contaminate the wheel bearing grease.

The inner hub seal is the leather one in the previous post . I believe all carriers use this. the outer one, ( 2 metal parts,which may be optional ) is the one Bryan has posted a pic. of.

Yes Lynn, the 2 piece metal seal I have not seen before but my outter seal looks almost identical except the outside ring is of leather or felt. That is good & able to be reused. The metal cased seal is the inner seal, mandatory fitment part if you want no grease on your brake linings. I copied that picture from the previous thread, Tony has actually answered the question now that I read that thread again, on the other thread a link to Mac's antique parts, who actually has them in stock by the part number that I see stamped into it. Some days I feel like such a NUMBNUT thanks for all the good advice guys.

Terry, waiting on an email from Mac's Parts who list them at under $20.00 US each. He also appears to have the carrier wheel nuts I am also searching for. If that does not pan out I may ask you for the Ford V8 man's details. All in all though a good day as I hope to have found hub seals, wheel nuts & just now a flathead ford V8 supplier 3 hrs away with a selection of engines to choose from. As I am still at work it's a wonder anything gets done around here..............work related that is... tee hee.

I hope to be able to post some piccs of my carrier that WILL be on it's tracks by the end of next month......

I remember not long after I joined to Air Force, being sprung by the section WO bringing a foriegn order into his shop.

So I suggest you have top priority too
