Talking My first MV

Like Hanno I'm moving house soon and as is the way with these things you end up poking about in draws and cupboards that hardly ever get opened. While engaged in this I found a whole bunch of photos of some of my early vehicles, here's my very first.

I guess it just had to be a jeep The date is summer 1958 and that’s our caravan in the background with my Mum keeping an eye on me and my Dad's split screen 1956 woody Morris Traveller in the background............. happy days

How many of you out there have kept pictures of yourself with your first MV I wonder

Pete

Default Dinky Toys

Hi Pete,

1958........about that time, I would have had a number of military Dinky Toys, one notably being a Bedford QL. Now, doubtful if I ever imagined then, that I would one day own one.

If our parents wanted to shape our future, they should have been more careful on what toys they bought us

My most treasured Dinky Toy was the armoured command post AEC closely followed by the Morris quad then a Champ but I don’t like admitting that one oh and then there was a flirtation with a DUKW but the dam thing wouldn't float so at an early age I was put off them (left that to Wardie who obviously never got over it)

As for our parents shaping our futures............. what chance did I stand, by the age of 5 I was taught to drive sitting on my Dad's lap in that Woody you see in the picture, I had to shout when I wanted him to change gear and by 8 I could list most of the standard British and Canadian standard soft skins off by hart.......... with an ex 1st Army LAD class 1 fitter for a Dad there was no option.

Pete

Hi Pete,

Hope you have settled in by now.
I have, but still a lot of boxes need clearing. One of them yielded this picture. I shows me at age 17 (yes, I was born with hair!), showing off in a Jeep while still not legally allowed to drive. The Jeep looks like a bit like a toy relative to my size

H.

Default At about 19 years old

I think we were having some fish and chips after a successful test run of the F60S. That's me on the right.
Before this of course I also had the Dinky toys - the 25pdr that shot matchsticks, but no pics of that...

Euan, Keefy assures me he doesn't wear dresses anymore, at least in public.
