Default Odometer Rotation

Hi gals & guys

HELP

The more I restore the less I seem to know. I was quite happy with the knowledge that Ford odometers rotate downwards and GM odometers rotate upwards. The Ford knowledge was based on the Waltham speedos. Then whilst restoring a Stewart Warner speedo, allegedly out of a Ford, shock/horror the odometer rotates upward.

At this stage I haven't rebuilt the speedo to determine the correct rotation of the speedo drive, and maybe, hopefully, the gearing is reversed to compensate for the rotation. All I know is that now I have to get manufactured another odometer for the S/W speedos.

Confused - Bob

Default Problem Solved

Ok, you can stop wracking your brains, I've solved the problem. All the Ford & GM CMP speedos have the same rotation off their drives, namely clockwise as one looks at the front of the speedo. The gearing in the various speedos allow for the odometers to rotate either up or down depending on the make of the speedo.
