Default Help a newbie

I finally got my Mark I in the shop and started dismantling the beast. I have made only one grave error so far. I did not realize the bolts that hold the rear axle to hull were special. These are the ones that support the brake backing plate on the ends. So, I need to find someone that has these, as mine are now destroyed. Anyone help?
What about wiring harnesses, any help there? I have made arrangements to have them made, but would gladly look at alternatives.
I also found out that the speedo drive gear has a number of missing teeth, so if anyone has one of those, I would love to purchase that too.
I will undoubtedly be bothering some of you when the reassembly starts. The linkage/measurement section has me scared.
Regards,
John Bizal

Default Manuals

John have you bought a set of manuals and parts list from Alex Blair here on the forum? Makes for good reading before taking things apart to see if there is a special tool method etc. I've got copies and the quality is excellent.

Default Linkage and RePo Parts Source

John,

Good to hear that you are working on that Carrier!

You should fish around this site and get hooked up with Rob Groves in Barrie, Ontario. He has all of the linkage setup fixtures that you will need. They will save you pulling out your hair when the time comes to set up the steering on that beast.

Rob also has some armour bits ( yes, armour has a "U" in your Carrier) and track tensioning tools. I have had really good luck with Rob's repos, and continue to tell others of his work.

Any pix of that machine? We all love to see rusted hulks, then restored machines.

Good luck.

Stewart

Did you drop into see me a few years ago after a trip to Bob Phillips place?- I live out in the woods, and you had a pickup truck full of bits and parts?

Default Books etc

I got a nice set of manuals from Claude Bergeron. They have been very helpful, and they are also what scared the daylights out of me when I read the steering section.
Stewart, Yes, that was me that stopped at you house. I finally getting to put some of the scrounged parts to use.
I have lots of pictures of the carrier. I have some of the carrier as I found it in the woods on the island, and have been taking some now as we disassemble.
Anyone got ideas on repro fuel tanks, and those special bolts for the rear diff?
John
