Default Off an Acco?

Evening all
Got this at a clearing sale sometime back, would I be right in assuming that it is for an Acco?. If not any ideas?

Crate in the background is (one of two) full of Acco Tailgate chains, thought they were LandRover when I bid for them. Not sure how I ended up with both the above, can only plead insanity due to 36 hours with no sleep, torrential rain and flooded roads (Mudgee was nearly cut off) and possibly one of the worst run sales I have ever been to. I guess the omens were bad when the auctioneers name was....Storm!
Probably have to get an Acco to make it all worthwhile....

Default Tow Frame

Richard
Army accos have towing D's similar to Blitz's so the brackets on the 2 ends of the v frame are a bit of a mistery , from what I could see in the picture if you used those brackets you would have to take off the D rings .
However with out the brackets the 2 ends of the v frame would attach to the D's.

Regards
Jim s

Default acco bits

wow, that looks like a box of goodies

I think Jim is right, if the front dees were unbolted from an acco and this frame bolted in place, you would have an A frame for long distance towing...

I bet hodgo over at AULRO forum can confirm this...

I'd be interested in a set of chains for my Mk3 if you'd like to sell a pair?

Thanks for the replies, here is another shot of the fixings. With attachments taken of at the pin (had not thought of that), and the pin could be used in the "D"s, but I imagine there would be some slop. Not sure what the bolt pattern of "D"s are either, are the bumpers themselves bolted from the front? Maybe they bolt on there? Been awhile since I had a good look at an ACCO so am unsure what the set up is. But I take it that it is definatley an ACCO "A" Frame (Until proven otherwise)
Sam, I do sell a few of the chains at Corawa Swim In ($10.00 pr) if you know anyone coming down. I fear they would be somewhat expensive to mail.
Now to try and work out how to post pics on the new setup

Thanks for the pic Sam, Jim S is right, exactly the same as a blitz "D".
A pair of chains weigh 1.5 kgs.
Drive the Mk3 down and I'll give you a pair gratis!!!!
Hooroo

How big is that A frame?

Looks like the one for land rovers, but the mounts at the back are a mystery, could be the floor mounts to fit them to a wrecker land rover. If it is it would make it very rare as only 3 I know of still exist, and 2 of them are in bandiana. And to me it looks mighty similar.

See pics on these pages

And if you haven't seen it already Richard, have a look at the Army Inter Chapter of REMLR

Richard "Hawk Eyes" Green
Finally found what you meant, lying flat in the back of the Bandiana landi. I see what you mean, very similar, but.... eye on the landy appears to be cut out of flat 1 1/2 plate, and legs look shorter, mine has cast eye and legs are 1430mm from eye center to pin at bottom of leg, in closed position. Thanks for your input, got a question about workshop landies for you, I'll post in a couple of days when I have more time.
Sam, Uncle had an Acco when he lived on Fraser Island, they allowed 1mpg for it! It drove nicer on the sand than the 'cruiser we were in though.
Rich.

Your eyes are keener than mine, didn't spot the cast unit. But you know where there is a similar one to compare it to at least.

Fire away any time you have any landy questions, or visit www.remlr.com which I maintain.

I have this Inter A-Frame drawbar, which although basically the same as Richard's, does not have the 3-ribbed fitting at the end.
The Army Inter ACCO D-Rings are the same dimensions as a Chev Blitz D-Ring, the Ford D's being a thicker casting in the D section. My Inter A-Frame has D shaped inserts which go inside the Inter (or Chev) D-Ring to allow the cross-pin to make a slack-free connection:

Tony,
you've thrown me now. Not a lot of similarities between the two "A" frames.Mine is adjustable in length for a start, and the pin bases are different. Looks like yours is the real deal, I have no number on mine, possibly there were different ones made? Might bring it along to Corawa, if I write jeep on it I'll get corrected pretty quick smart! Love the adapter for the "D"s, is that original?
I think I had ideas of putting it on the front of my Blitz when I bought it (bit of a blur as I mentioned) but since then ,I found the front fairleads at a swapmeet, so now have only one "D" on the front. Definatley have to get another truck now.
SAM
PM sent
Got a full set of 12.oo-20 tyre chains here, imagine what the postage on 120kgs is!

Mmm, the land rover one is adjustable in length, maybe it's the fittings at the end that aren't original. you could always compare it to the one at bandiana (on the wrecker). If you bring it to corowa i'd like a sticky beak as well.
