Default Bushfire destroys military museum

The ABC TV news reported today , a bushfire in West. Aust. has destroyed a military museum .. I cannot confirm as the ABC web site doesn't seem to have anything confirming the story.

Anyone heard anything ?

Mike

Default military museum

Mike
It used to be a military museum started up by a Murray Lucas who was collecting and restoring vehicles and equipment before it became more popular. Unfortunately Murray passed away and his collection was spread far and wide .
I think the site today was used as a store shed for other equipment .
Regards
Jim S.

Default Museum Fire

Article from paper PerthNow

Carabooda fire blamed on arson
March 27, 2008 05:36am
ROADS north of Perth were still closed this morning as firefighters battled a deliberately lit bushfire that threatened lives and destroyed a military museum.

the Fire and Emergency Services Authority said this morning that the Carabooda fire, which investigators believe was deliberately lit, was partly under control, but Wanneroo Rd was still closed from Bernard Rd south to Karoborup Rd and, although detours were in place, drivers should avoid the area if possible.

A wind change yesterday afternoon directed the blaze away from homes but not before it had destroyed three sheds, including one housing a military museum at tourist attraction Dizzy Lamb Park.

Last night the blaze was heading north in the Alkimos and Pidpinny areas, west of Wanneroo Rd, having burnt more than 600ha.

About 120 firefighters were working to contain the flanks of the blaze, assisted by helitacs and water bombers.

Damage to museum exhibits was estimated at $400,000, a FESA spokeswoman said.

FESA, which was alerted to the fire at noon yesterday, said it was believed it had been lit deliberately.

FESA urged people who had observed suspicious behaviour near the intersection of Bailey Rd and Emerald Dve in Carabooda to notify Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Wireless Hill Park blaze

A bushfire at Wireless Hill in Ardross was brought under control late yesterday after firefighters fought it for several hours.

Residents living near the reserve were placed on fire alert at the height of the blaze, which destroyed about 20ha of bush.
