Default CMP / Chevrolet in Libya; another one...

...I am sure I start to bother you with all my remnants in the Libyan desert. But since this forum is the best source of information regardng those old trucks - what other possibilty do I have than to post my questions here?

Maybe in relation to this thread:

http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=11154

Whilst on the way to above truck, we have found by sheer luck another wreck of a similar type of vehicle. It is about 200kms further NW and does not have its wheels any more. But it looks quite similar than the other one - any idea?

And some more pictures which may help to identify the truck:

It's a 1941 C60 12 cab with a tipper body. These relic pictures are very interesting. I don't think you're bothering anybody by posting them. Keep it up.

Default Mystery

Am I right in suggesting it's a C60S if it's a Tipper? Note the Brantford body. Also, the engine casting date code, for October 9th 1941. However I can find no evidence of any British # 12 Cab Tippers, so it's either a rebuild, or could it be Australian? Did Aussie CMPs use Canadian bodies at the time?

Default body

I wouldn't have thought it to be a tipper, to me it looks like a GS body much like one we have here and the photo of the bow frame thing under the body looks like part of the spare tyre carrier that was fitted behind the cab. Any more photos of the body as it looks in good shape

Default Cab 12 Universal Centre

Morning Max - you are going to have to watch Kuno trying to muscle in on where the Universal Centre actually is.

On taking another look I think it's likely a GS body too.

Default doors

Has anyone noticed the Ford/Chev cab 12 door differences ?

I had some NOS Ford doors ( two sets ) , they have a short inner panel that screws on. It is only about 6" high from the lower edge , the door is mostly exposed on the inside .

On the other hand the Chevs seem to have a full panel which covers the whole inner side of the door .

Default S/m 2033?

The nearest suggested Demand I can find is S/M 2033, for 3-ton G/S lorries, of which some were sent to Egypt. Or early S/M 2037?

It's funny that you mention this, as I was just thinking of the same. My Chev Cab 11 has fully covered doors on the inside, and even Tire pressure lettering on it. Is it a Chev vs Ford difference, or early vs late?

The covered door is a Chev thing all the way on Cab 11s and 12s. I never looked to see if there's any other Chev to Ford differences in the doors.

evening Bob,...Kuno certainly has a rather large sand pit that he can go and play in
Howard and I might have to join forces to keep the centre down under
