Pick Axe heads- which one is correct?

Hi All,

I have 2 pick axe heads. Both are marked D^D on them in the same spot.

The only differences are as follows:
1 has a more flattened out digging half compared to the other
1 has extra markings- i believe it says: PLUMB AUSTRALIA 6

Is there any info out there on these? Are mine correct for a CMP- particuarly one that would be carried by an F15A or do they belong to something else?

I have seen many other period photo and restored Australian ww2 and post war vehicles (bigger and smaller, tracked and wheeled) with these (or a modern replacement) fitted and i am just wondering if there is anything specific to which one goes with which vehicle or doesnt it matter and both are correct?

Ian, if you look at the ones on the REMLR CES page here http://www.remlr.com/ces.html you will see the ones used from about 1960 onwards, and maybe earlier.

Those 2 you have look to predate them be a few years I would say.

Thanks very much Richard! That has helped a huge amount!

Based on what you have shown, i would agree too- they are earlier than the ones in the kits pictured.

Maybe there is no specifics for vehicles, its just that they are different manufacturers and as such appear slightly different, yet both as correct as each other. Who knows! Maybe some digging into the national archives might reveal something to me... I`ll have a look!

What i've found of the later era that I have interest in, up to the current. Is that while there was WW2 stock, that was used. I have a shovel for my 1961 land rover that fits well on the 1981 well, and it's a WW2 dated shovel. in the 60's there was a reasonably large program of purchasing new equipment, and now it's just whatever fits at the hardware store. However Trojan do seem to have supplied the equipment for some time.

As far as I can tell it is a generic pieve of equipment for use on any vehicle, not specific to one type or another unless it is a special tool.

Makes alot of sense!

Now to get some measurements for a correct handle, find 2 and i`m in business subbing out as a trench digger!
