Wayne H has asked me to post these three pics of an original Carrier LP2A, which has been significantly modified by a WA group, to depict a Panzerkampfwagen II (Panzer Mk 2). Albert Speer would be rightly proud of this one !
I'm told that the extra sheet metal is 6mm thick and that it has a large offset V8 coupled to an automatic gearbox. The original carrier hull has been lengthened by around 4 feet and when the vehicle is completed it will have a gas operated 20mm cannon mounted. Weight will be around the 4-5 ton mark. It has hydraulic steering and an electrically traversed turret. Interesting and an unbelievable amount of work. Jack |

Nice quality work boys, would not pick it as a carrier hull as a starting point.

Truly impressive job, blown away.
![]() Will love to see more pics of this as work progresses. Twist Wayne's arm for a pic of the engine. Will we see it finished as a DAK vehicle? Ryan |

Hi Bob,
No numbers on this hull as there was minimal side armor and no front plate. Not needed for the end product. Not a W.A carrier as we no longer cut them up. (isn't that right Murray) 12 road wheels were swapped for two cartons of beer, I know that's double the usual price but sometimes you just have to pay. The Hull was picked from one of 7 wrecks at our infamous local scrap dealer/ military collector. Hi Ryan, The end product will unfortunately be painted grey and not the DAK yellow. The guys that built this are "dress up types" and the clothes they wear are black. |

Yes Wayne, you're right, we don't cut up WA carriers anymore. For those few who don't know, back in the middle 1980's I acquired a LP2a much the worse for wear and learnt that back in the 1950's, the army had towed many carriers out to a National ParK on the outskirts of perth and threw them down a steep hill in thick bush. For the next several years they used them as target practice, even hitting them sometimes.
Needing front, back and side armour I went up there with the dreaded gas axe and spent a weekend at the closest carrier, lugging huge lumps of steel up a huge hill (aided by millions of bushflies) The Parks Authority had decreed that the 9 carriers could not be dragged through thir precious bush at all. I found out later that my doner carrier was a fairly rare one of a 100 plus made in 1941-2 in WA (at the State Engineering Works, North Fremantle). When I realised this I made the mistake of telling someone and I'm still being reminded of it. The Parks Authority have now decreed that there might be unexploded ordnance in the area (even though all the rounds used were A.P. solid shot.) and have banned any human activity in the area. Before they did that though Graeme Stephens spent some time there acquiring stuff for his carrier and took the effort to log all carriers details and photograph them. I dont know if anyone would be interested in seeing them? Below is my carrier as found and completed. Sadly it hasn't moved for probably 8=9 years now. Murray |

Graeme (for all his other faults) has done a magnificent job of documenting and photographing these carriers. There are 22 pagges in all. I've converted it to a pdf file which can be read with Adobe Reader and has reduced it from 33mbs to 2.1mbs.
Hopefully that will sneak under the limit for attachments. Murray |
