The "W/T" simply means that the vehicle's electrical system was insulated so that there was no static interference in the operation of on-board wireless equipment.

was this a common feature among the C15TA's or was this one of few?

Your dad's C15TA is a well-know survivor to this forum. Wheels & Tracks magazine once featured a pic of this much modified example when it was still fitted a snow plough, rear jib and diesel engine. Reportedly, it had "350 mm play at the steering wheel" and was photographed about 20 miles from Perth. Sten Boye Poulsen later came up with the attached picture. Great to see it now has survived into preservation! For more information re. the C15TA, go here: http://www.geocities.com/cmpvehicles/c15ta.html Cheers, Hanno

GMC
According to the manual, all C15TA were fitted with a screened distributor and surpressors where necessary. As a result any vehicle could be converted to the radio role as and when required. Obviously a radio table and associated control boxes and aerial bases would also have been required. Also as all but the late production models were 6 volt, a chorehorse generator and radio batteries would also have been required. Alex Blair on this forum should be able to sell you a complete set of manuals if you require any. I also own ones of these vehicles so if I can be of any help send me an e-mail. |

Hi Neil,
Maybe I read your post wrong, but late production models were 12 volt as you can tell by a different starter motor (with solenoid), starter button on the dash, bigger lid for the battery storage on the right floor of the drivers seat. Cheers, Stefan |

![]() ![]() We don't really know what "we are meant to be asking" (if that makes sense...), but if you have any info to aid us in it's restoration, or of what sort of history it may have had, that would be really great! Thank-u!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

- Tracing an individual vehicle's history is very difficult, next to impossible really. - As for restoration, how far back to authentic do you want to go? The diesel engine should be replaced by a GMC 270 cu.in. engine, basically the same as in the ubiquitious GMC CCKW truck of WW2 vintage. Not a problem finding one of these. The rear body, including the floor, needs to refabricated as the chance of finding a spare one is virtually nil - it's very often missing from trucks who have had a hard life in civvy street. If you are a good machinist, everything is possible, also because it's constructed mainly from flat plate. A huge job, that's for sure. Maybe just leave it and enjoy it as it is? Regards, Hanno

"all but the late production models" means "alle behalve de late productie modellen", in other words "all models were 6 volt, except for the late production models". Hope this helps, Hanno

Talking about WT equiped C15TA's, does any one still have the screening attached to their engine? Due to engine access problems, this would obviously be the first thing to get thrown out after army release.
Also does anyone have any information on the vacum advance and retard Distributors fitted to these engines. |

![]() Thanks for that, guys! Dad has also found a yellow ring painted on the front. We have looked at photos of others, and found that they have a no.5 painted on a yellow circle. Any ideas on how this may have came about?? ![]() BTW Hanno, Dad agrees that fully restoring it back to the way it was would be an awful lot of work and research.Thinks he might just do-up the front end and leave the jib on it - for now... ![]() |

My info has it that there were: ARMORED TRUCKS- 3,961
British (S/M 2611) C15TA Census Numbers I know of are: Z 5822262 to 5822763 Z 6173360 to 6173609 Z 6192962 to 6193965 Z 6263122 to 6263827 We know that a large proportion were assembled by Pearsons of Liverpool, possibly both for Canadian (*CDLV 2524?) and British use. We have some photos of these sands Census Numbers which will be going in the book out end of this year i think. |
