Serge,

It looks a lot like a 5 ton Snowplough trailer, as was advertised on Milweb last year. That ons was based in Southern France. Also I remember seeing one in Wheels & tracks magazine in the Antwerp docks.

Have a look here: http://www.mapleleafup.org/forums/sh...ght=snowplough

Default Aim and use of the trailer

Hello

I would like to know the use of these trailer : may be laden with the tool in front of the snowplough truck? What kind of truck was used to tow these trailer.

In one of the pic , we can see 8 supplementary holes on the wheel . Did you have an idea of there use

thanks Serge

Hello Serge,
Reading the data plate in one of your photos, this is a British built trailer. I am not convinced about the snowplough theory, it depends on whether it refers to the plough blade or complete vehicle, and that would be over 5 tons, the payload of trailer. Going on the Contract number, T/M 12016, this is a Cranes Trailer for Carrying of Tractor, according to the census number list. Looking at the body, the front part is covered in steel and the rear two thirds is, or was timber. The weight of a CAT D4 dozer would be withing the payload of the trailer and the steel bed at front would be to stop the blade damaging the floor.

Regarding the wheels, this looks like a "farmers job", the wheels fitted are too large, probably 16 inch rims, where the trailer along with other British 5 ton trailers was fitted with 13 inch wheels with 10.50-13 tyres. To fit the 16 inch wheels, a ring has been welded in to the centre of the wheels and redrilled to fit the hub.

Of course, it may have been for carrying a D4 which was used as a snowplough
