Wow Darren, that was quick decision making. I've put in a bid to bump it up a bit

I presume the "T112" listed is part of the census number? See my earlier reply for the location of the hull or serial number. If you let me know what is stamped on the rear towing lugs, the collective knowledge on the Sherman Register list will be able to give you some provenance for this M3.

HTH,
Hanno

P.S.: have posted your Ebay ad on the Sherman Register mailing list.

You bastard Hanno, you outbid me.

Darren, what state did your tank originate from? Just curious.

Default Hull number

I had a look at the rear tow lugs and T112 is stamped on both of them. Does this make sense??

I not sure of its origin but the grant came from around Emerald, Qld. I believe they have been there for sometime. There is a couple still there but all converted to bulldozers and other tractors made form transmissions.

Thanks
Darren

Darren,

Not really, normally only numbers are stamped on the rear tow lugs. Examples for M3 Mediums are 1687 (M3 built by from American Locomotive), 1962 (M3A1 surviving at APG, USA). The first M3 Medium Tank built by Chrysler at the Detroit Tank Arsenal in April, 1941 is still around and has the serial number 2 stamped on the rear tow lugs.

Could you please post a picture?

Regards,
Hanno

P.S.: here´s an exmple showing serial number 18903 stamped on left rear towing shackle boss of an M4A4 (Sherman VC Firefly):

I see you have a new commander or is he a driver. Should have made his day as it rolled off the truck.

Looks like it is the start of a good project.

All the best

Regards

Col
