Default 7th is a friday.

I am waiting for confirmation for the dates from The Ottawa Tulip Festival. The 7th is a Friday. I was thinking they might want the displays 7-9 May.

The Veterans Affairs Parade is confirmed at 11:00 on the 08 May.

Thanks
Eric

Default latest VE-Day info

Hello Folks

Here is the latest information i have received

07 May
The National Capital Commission will be hosting a Street Party on Sparks St. They have invited members to set up Military Vehicles as part of a display. Re-enactors can set up displays. (NO tents or camping permitted as there is no grass or facilities.)

08 May
Canada Remembers (Veterans Affairs Canada) is organizing a commemorative ceremony to honour the 65th Anniversary of VE-Day. The ceremony will involve Veterans, their families, youth, current serving Canadian Forces members and government representatives with the continued goal of passing the torch of remembrance down through the generations.

The CF parade and Second World War Veteran's motorcade will form up and depart from Cartier Square Drill Hall in downtown Ottawa. Other Veterans will form up on Queen Street to parade on to the Memorial. Approximately 500 Veterans will parade in motorcade of CF troop transport, vintage vehicles and motorcoach.

Parade
Start Location: Cartier Drill Hall, 2 Queen Elizabeth Drive, Ottawa, Ontario.

9:00 am. Military vehicle owners to meet at Cartier Drill Hall. Form up location yet to be determined.

Dress: Appropriate vintage civilian wear or uniforms for the era of the vehicle, R.C. Legion uniform, OMVA, MVPA etc Shirts, or dress appropriately.

NO Weapons unless permanently attached as part of the vehicle and must be deactivated.

Re-enactors are invited to walk alongside the vehicles.

10:15 With the assistance of Veterans Affairs staff and currently serving CF members, Second World War Veterans will board the CF troop transports, vintage vehicles and motor coaches.

10:30 Motorcade will form up at Cartier.

10:35 Motorcade departs trailed by LAV IIIs.

10:45 Motorcade arrive on Elgin Street West at VIP red carpeted entrance. Veterans are assisted off of the vehicles.

11:00 Official Ceremony to take place at National War Memorial

Post Ceremony

Staff and CF assist Veterans onto vehicles.

Parade and Veterans marching contingent will form up along Elgin Street East and will March North on Elgin Street.

Parade now tentatively to end back at Cartier Drill Hall where there will be a reception held for the Veterans.

Vehicle invited to return to Sparks St for Displays.

Apparently there is funding to ship vehicles to Ottawa from a reasonable distance. Working wheeled vehicles only as tracked vehicles require a special permit (and fee) for each from the City of Ottawa.

Please respond to cmpmagazine@hotmail.com

MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW AND THOSE ABOVE ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE

Thank you Terry for offering your services. VAC and DND will be responsible for assiting the Vets, although we know the MV owners and any re-enactors will assist. (I can't offer any beer as i do not know what will be supplied at the Veterans reception afterwards).

thank you

Eric
