Hi, I have a couple of sten gun mounting brackets and was wondering if any one has a picture and measurements between the brackets, so i can fit them to my engine covers?. thanks.

Hi, Thanks Ron, I want to mount a sten gun in the back of my tank hunter, I know as standard it wouldnt of had this facility but I have the clips and want to use them, i will take some pics later, The FUC-03 catalogue part number for them is C31UCW-104378 for both brackets but mine are slightly different.
I dont think the sten would look out of place on the tank hunter if mounted in a similiar postion as on the Mk2, I'm thinking they may of did this when the 2pdr was removed and they wanted to use it as a useful carrier, any thoughts on non stanadard stowage mods applied to carriers?. Ron if you could let me know the spacing measurements between the clips, i think the T stock bracket is mounted at a slight angle looking at the parts drawing. thanks kevin.

Kev. The front bracket lies vertical to the ground. it's about 1/2" from the front and top of splash shield at the nearest points. The rear bracket is almost at the top of shield at nearest point and lies at an angle to suit the T butt. Distance between centres of brackets is 22 1/2". Ron

Hi, Ron many thanks for taking the time on the pictures, my brackets look like yours, just need to put some leather on them. I have a mK3 sten which I have just realized wont fit these brackets, I guess they were made for the Mk2 sten, as you have fitted. Anyone what to trade stens?.
Ron, Got the 3" mortar finished, many thanks for your help also in this area, interesting note is the training tube mortar which I have wont take a regular mortar bomb, it appers the training bombs are made smaller to fit the smaller inside diameter tube, not by much, I guess this is to stop your sticking a live HE mortar in the training tube and then taking a last look as it ski ramps out the bottom. ![]()

Hey Kevin,
Can you post a photo of your mortar training barrel and does it have any markings? All of the training barrels I've seen were made from either early WWII 3" barrels or modifed Stokes barrels. But either way, they accept a standard 3" mortar bomb. Practice loading bombs were standard rounds with sand for weight inside. And they usually have a large metal ring similar to a big washer welded to the bottom edge of the tail unit fins. That way they wouldn't get bent when the bomb came out of the cut-away lower section of the barrel after dropping it down.

Hi, Here's some pics of the 3" mortar I have restored.
Horsa, My mistake on the barrel size, it will take a standard round, I just first tried it with a restored round I had which has had to many coats of varnish on it so wont go in, See pics. I have one practice round with the welded fin protection ring. It has no markings on the barrel I can see, The barrel came from Canada, The stand from the Netherlands and i copied an original base plate, I also had to make the lower recoil spring clamping band, everything else is original, should look good on the back of the mortar carrier when finished. I'm interested to learn how the barrel carrying strap is afixed to the barrel, I have one but cant workout how it should work. Kevin.

Nice looking rounds.
For the barrel carrying strap, there should be a metal ring on one end and that gets slipped over the ball on the barrel. The other end should have a strap coming off at a right angle and it wraps around the barrel and cinches back to itself. There should be a section at the of strap that also continues straight (in-line with the barrel) and it is a quick-release system that can fasten onto the end strap that is on a separate muzzle cover made of leather. I can probably source a photo if this doesn't make sense. For marking on your barrel, many of these training types have a ball that is not removable and the there will be markings on it somewhere near the barrel. I've seen several that were 1940-1941 dated and think they were converted from earlier patterns.
