Help wanted!
An Arty friend on ww2talk.com is after information regarding the location of the RCA 3rd and 4th Medium Gun Regiments 31st Oct, 1st Nov 1944. Apparently the book " Gunners of Canada " does not contain the info. Many thanks. |

3rd and 4th Med Regts were part of 2nd Cdn AGRA's order of battle for the operation to take Walcheren. They were jammed together along the coastal strip west of Breskens (from the Gunners of Canada). A more specific location will have to be devined by researching the regimental histories, which may or may not reveal the details you are looking for.

The war diaries will give the name of the town and/or the map reference. These map references are not identical to today's but I believe that there is a utility available that allows you to determine the exact spot on today's maps. Ed Storey may be able to help.

As Clive pointed out "The war diaries will give the name of the town and/or the map reference . . ."
The War Diaries for the period in question of the two regiments are available on microfilm reels and can be borrowed through your local Library from Library and Archives Canada on an Inter-Library Loan. The file references for each are: for the 3rd Medium Regiment - Reference: RG24, National Defence, Series C-3, Volume 14388, Reel T-15903-15904 and for the 4th Medium Regiment - Reference: RG24, National Defence, Series C-3, Volume 14394, Reel T-15910-15911 See your local Library for details on borrowing these files from Library and Archives Canada through an Inter-Library Loan. Cheers

The RCA museum in Shilo, Manitoba holds the triplicate copy of the war diaries for all of the Canadian Artillery units.
An email to them through the museum website could be worth a try as well. Best of luck. |
