Question Blue Flame Engines & Blitz Steering

Hi Guys,

on my 1943 Chev Blitz C15a 4wd the Steering wheel has a good couple of inches play before the road wheels move, I am used to vague steering on old Land Rovers but is this too excessive for safe Road use as i dont want to be a highway wanderer ?
Also, I knew my engine had been replaced with a 'direct replacement' engine and thought it was a Holden straight 6 but it may be a Blue Flame, its number is GM 2771291 on the block and on the manifold it says 'GM Mexico 1972' and a bunch of numbers too, if it is a Blue Flame are these also know as Chev 235's ?
plus are they a good engine and decent performer in a Blitz ?

Thanks

Andy

Default steering

Andy,

The steering box is a recirculating ball design. Very advanced for that time and it needs adjusting by the sound of it . By contrast the Fords had a crude steering box .

Best engineered thing about Chev's is the steering box .

Default Engine

The engine sounds like it may be the 292 'Mexican' engine as in Euan's CGT.
Beast of an engine for a CMP.

Default 235 v 292

If the dizzy is 1/2 way down the engine its more like a 235. The 292 has the dizzy up the front of the block. On a 235 the side cover plate doesn't extend up the head like a 216.

Question

Thanks guys,
dizzy is front left as you look at the engine, it is just above and back from oil filter, sideplate wise there appears to be 2, I think a light blue colour and I can see grey on the engine but i dont know if colours help establish what it is further than this ?
is there other feature or numbers i can check to assist in recognition ?
Cheers

Default 292

Sound like keith is right! 292 has 2 side plates and the dizzy above the oil filter. I recon the water pump would be close to the radiator and a thermo fan fitted.

yes Euan, the water pump is close though there is a normal fan fitted too.... its literally an inch from the radiator ! I think they may have 'massaged' the surround and it has a couple of homemade lower radiator brackets that makes the Radiator slanted slightly and bulge out touching the grille.
So what is the actual model of engine so i know for sourcing service items, is it a Blue Flame, 216 or 235 ?

Cheers,

Andy

Default 292

292 mexican engine most likely out of a C10-C20 chev truck.

Hi Euan, The C60 custom delux I owned had a 292 with monojet carby in it and with 9 ton of apples on the deck it could suck up a massive amount of petrol.

Default Mexican 292

Hi all - i have been reliably informd from several sources that the Mexican 292 Chevorlet motor is the best Chevrolet engine every released. For what is it worth.
