Hi,
Pulled this Bren tripod mount out of the closet today after seeing an old movie showing these mounts used in the AA position in the rear of troop trucks. I would like to use this mount in the C8 as a removeable display. My mount appears to be a salad of different year parts. Did some research on the net, and as usual came up with more questions than answers.... From my photos, which model is this mount, how was the extra AA leg attached, and how was the Bren attached to this model mount in the AA role? Sorry for the newbie questions. ![]() Thanks, David |

The AA leg came in two parts that slid into the tubes on the sides of the triangle making up the main frame. Once removed and joined, they made the third leg that fastened into a slot just under the pivot. By design or accident, the slot is exactly the same as the bayonet for an Enfield 'SMLE' rifle. If you lost a leg section, your No.2 could substitute his rifle for the third leg (see attached). The bad news is that there are Mk.1 tripods that have provision for the AA leg and Mk.II's that don't.

Thanks Bruce for the great information!
I guess I must have a Mk.II tripod mount then as there is no slot on the front leg casting piece for..... So, the Mk.II's weren't able to be used in the AA position? Love to have one of those 100 round drum magazines! ![]() Thanks again, David |

It sounds like you are a Mk.II kind of guy. Here's what the slot looks like (top, looking down, you can see the pivot for the Bren, the slide and the button to release the leg/SMLE).
