Diff Light

Can somebody please post a photo of a diff light. Mine is rather corroded and I would like to see the lens end, as it is sharp edged. I think that it should be rounded to hold in the lens, like the front guard light. There doesn't seem to be anything to hold the glass lens in.

It is the same as the other convoy lights except it has a longer front cover. I may be able to supply one for you... Send me a PM

It is a standard convoy light with an extension tube pressed on.

Hi Eric

These are often missing on vehicles after all these years, there are differences depending on year and Pattern Style. There are some very good original drawings that I will try to find and if I can find them I'll post them.

Basically if it is a Pattern 13 it will be the same as the marker lights with the addition of approximately 3" long tube that slides over the barrel of the normal marker light body.

I had an original at one stage. It was, as described, a 3 inch extension/longer tube, but over the end of that fitted a round-edged cap with a lens in it, hend in place by a pipe clamp. I assumed it was so the tube would not fill with mud/dirt?

Mike I agree with you about the cover cap being an attempt to keep dirt out. But it may also be that the smaller hole at the end of the 3" tube made the lamp light a tighter circle on the dif cover. Or to make it easier to clean.

My HUP has its original dif light and it is just a straight 3" tube slid on what would be a marker light. The mud has never been much problem even when the truck has been in water/mud over the axle. What has been a problem is that the little lenses in the marker light unit in time collects oil which collects dust.
