Hi All
Well Salesman Bob and I conducted another successful dawn raid today. Things got a little hairy loading the booty onto Bob's truck, but we were not going to be beaten by something that was not human and we won in the end. We quickly left the scene without being detected and headed back home with another F15A for Bob's collection, which now number 2 xF15A - 1 X F15 and a Blitz Half track ![]() Cheers Tony ![]()

I see you found the sports car model with the fold back aero screen.
I'm sure it wasn't a border raid as the border patrol didnt advise us of any movement. ![]()

Glad to see the Barn Boys are not the only birds of prey on the forum.

What engine have they got in that thing to require lifting the centre section of the bonnet like that? Or is it really the sports car model with the fold back aero screen?

All "Finds" of trucks should be done with the complete agreement of the actual owner of the item, supported with some sort of documentation proving the sale or transfer of the items. I don't believe ANYONE on MLU would condone or advocate the theft of items, so I am just putting this down for some who might be readers of the site. ![]() Don't think the practice happens? There have posts in these forums in the past asking members to be on the lookout for Parts, Trucks or Carriers that have gone missing in the night and I sadly think there will be more in the future. I myself have been on both ends of this, with items taken from me (and would gladly visit violence on the perpetrators), and also once being bailed up ( ![]() ![]() We should be very clear that MLU does not support any practice of illegally obtaining items for our hobby. |

I fully agree with your sentiments regarding the removal of any property without the owners permission. We would be very disappointed if any of our MLU members would condone what would be nothing other than theft of property. Theft of any kind should be dealt with by law as those kind of people make it very difficult for us genuine collector/restorers to enjoy our hobby. We always conduct proper ethics and contact the land owners for permission to enter their property to view anything of interest. We always arrange payment prior to any removal of items purchased. The owner of the property where we uplifted the F15A advised us of others who had visited his property earlier and viewed some of the items, only to find out a short time later that they had returned at night and stole a flat head engine. ![]() It is these types of low lifes that make it difficult for genuine people because property owners become suspicious of strangers on their land. ![]() Cheers Tony ![]()

Hi All
"......All "Finds" of trucks should be done with the complete agreement of the actual owner of the item, supported with some sort of documentation proving the sale or transfer of the items......" Very good point about documentation, after many problems getting vehicles registered or titled by members of our local club we have been advising members to include pictures in the Bill of Sale for vehicles or major parts. I know from personal experience that the Bill of Sale including a picture of my Pattern 12 C60L was the finial proof that counted in getting it registered and titled. By the way, I have always read the term "Boarder Raids" as being more of tongue and cheek description of an exercise were people from outside the region come in and find local treasures that have been lying undiscovered and/or under appreciated, buy them and clear them away before the guy down the road who has had his eye on the prize for years even knows what happened. Of course this is the view point of someone looking for CMPs in a land where basically there are none. Cheers Phil

I agree that you should obtain as much documentation and photos as possible when purchasing old vehicles. We always obtain receipts and photograph the vehicle from all angles for our records. As part of having an old vehicle registered, in South Australia you must also present the vehicle to the police station who check numbers and conduct a vehicle check before providing a completed form signed off by police which has to be submitted with all other documentation to the Dept. of Registration. ![]() Border Raids are when some one crosses a state border to collect/recover a found vehicle trophy and move it back into your own state. It is all tongue in cheek stuff and part of Australian interstate rivalry which is part of our make up. There is nothing better than getting " a one up " on your opposition and is all a lot of fun, because when the country is in trouble there are no ![]() Cheers Tony ![]()

Hi all - Euan was correct, modification was for the radiator cap. Apart from that, standard Blitz motor. I am trying to track down why it is this colour. The previous owner is dead and if this was a restoration it would have been done many years ago. I am wondering whether this truck saw desert service.
Of interest, the guy I obtained this Blitz from has just located a 4WD Austin truck painted in the same colour. This Austin has a roof hatch, 900x20 singles, and flared mudguards. I will be interested in the provenance and images of this truck. Bob

That Austin sounds like a K9 1 ton truck, they had that size tyres. Built around 1952 on, they used the civilian Loadstar cab with minor alterations such as roof hatch and a flare around the front wings to clear the larger tyres. The late Bob Dimer from WA had one and drove it on the Trackers run up to Alice in 2000. See this link for a photo of the radio bodied version of a K9 http://www.flickr.com/photos/albertsbite/4389706539/

There are a not real common over here, this the only one I have seen. Apart from the roof hatch, gaurds, larger wheels, 4x4 conversion, they also had the standard British FV range airfilter: all else was standard Austin Commercial.
Drove quite well, I liked it a lot, although the chassis was a bit on the light side and had some obvious repair work done on it. This one was missing the actual mud guards. Think Archie Marshall imported them into WA. Rich.
