I think I may have posted these pictures before.
The first is of the remains of a LRDG Chevvy found at Bir Harrash North of Kufra. Bir Harrash is where László Almásy snuck past the LRDG based at Kufra during Operation Salaam. The LRDG were otherwise engaged in searching for some missing planes. I believe that Bir Harrash was manned from time to time by Rhodesians and I would like to know whether the census number, L4403909, on the bonnet yields some information. The second picture shows what my Father found when he lifted the bonnet: a prop, a piece of string with a bog roll on it and a 40 gallon oil drum let into the sand. I leave the rest to your imagination. Needless to say, my Father rescued the bog roll (which we still have) and used it only on special occasions. Alastair F60S Lynx I MkIII* |
