Hi all - received a call from a new contact who has a load of Blitz stuff and a Gypsy. So I suggested he post some images for me to place on MLU. All items are in Deniliquin and I have contact details if anyone is interested.
Bob

Thanks for sharing these Bob!
Clearly they found it beneficial to stick with one brand of blitz. So the idea is he wants to dispose of these treasures?

Yes, Keith. I have had contact as well and will forward on details to anyone who wants them.. I have been out of email contact for a while and am currently working on an extremely slow system. Still it's better than nothing.
The son of the late owner lives on a property 500 km. North of Hay. The vehicles are at Deniliquin at his mothers place and he would rather do the deal than put strain on his mother. They are preferably for sale as ONE LOT. Regards Rick.

Not many other than scrappies who would take that on as one lot I fear.

Richard - as a Salesman I have to cater to all tastes and placate those with the weird bent towards the Pommy vehicles. Mellow, what me?

By some over here, they are regarded as superior to a Land Rover, but never having had direct experience of the Gypsy, I cannot comment. A lot of survivors here were those released from Civil Defence Corps storage, with very low mileage on them. The hood on the one shown must be homemade, never seen one like that on a Gypsy before.

Richard,
Have looked at a few over the years, and been offered a few as well, but for some reason there is just no spark of interest for me whatsoever. They would be one of the hardest vehicles to get rid of in Australia (Without going the scrap route), one just up the road was for sale at least 4 years. That being said, I am sure there is a small group of fanatics that just love them....very small. rich.

They have the strangest, worst engineered steering arrangement in the Gypsy . Prone to wear without provocation. Was offered 2 a few months ago

The early models used the weird rubber FLEXITOR suspension system . But BMC woke up to the errors of their ways and later changed over to conventional suspension mode . Made from 1958 to 68 . I believe some were used in Malaysia by Police or similar. Highly prone to rust , as the salesmans pics show. Here in OZ , consisdered to be a dud . MIKE

The Snowy Mountain Authority was well known for their early use of Land Rovers (715 between 1949 and 1966), they also trialled at least one Austin Gypsy in about 1958 for a 6 month evaluation.
"The Gypsy was a failure and was dropped by BMC" Source: Mud Sweat and Snow, by Noel Gough Would have been a pretty thorough test I imagine. Rich.

Well Bob, maybe Gypsy parts are worth more than we thought.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Remains-Au...item5647fc9650 No motor, squashed under a tree and very rusty, 250 of those British pounds. "He's Dreaming" Rich.

It makes you wonder why some people bother advertising this sort of stuff. No motor and keeping the gib and winch. I reckon the tree is better value.

Dear Bob,
In post # 2 you show a CMP modified as a forklift. I have actually seen one of those before, has to be nigh on 20 years ago, but closer to home. It was on a "raid" as you lads and lasses call it to the Kingston, Ontario (Canada) area and we called in a scrap yard just south and west of the 401 at hwy 38. As I was but a mere boy ![]() Does it jog anyone else's memory per chance? R |
