What is a Dodge T233 6x6?

Hello Clive

The Dodge T233 or WC-63 was the 1 1/2 ton 6x6 cousin to the WC-52 3/4 ton Dodge Weapons Carrier series.

They were not standard issue to the Canadian Army.

Not trying to step on any toes here, but the reference materiel I have ready to hand says the 1 1/2 ton 6x6 Dodges are T223, not T233. Have you found a new variant or was it a typo? If new, could we get more info.

WC-63 T-223-E-125 same numbers.

T223 WC-62 1943 US Government #s 3297503 to 3328846 W-374-ORD-2616 1 1/2 ton 6 x 6 125" w.b. # 82,000,006 and up 31,344 built, as Personnel and Cargo.
T223 WC-63 1943 as before # 3328847 to 3342502 13,656 built as Personnel and Cargo with Winch

I reminded myself that in the DND papers relating to the F60H, that Clive will know about, various 6 x 4 designs were discussed including Dodge, GMC, International K8F. In 1941 the F60H shortcomings were obvious and although Ford offered a Zpehyr V-12 powered F60H, and even 6 x 6 drive, the DND were not interested and looked to the US for supply. The Dodge WK-60 6 x 4 was considered and one pattern vehicle was supplied for testing. This of course had the Welles-Thornton rear bogie. Delivery was promised in five months of an order being placed.

As you know the GM C60X was chosen instead, but there is no evidence in the file that Chrysler of Canada offered a 6 x 6 chassis.

Clive, seems that the CNA index has a typo! Any chance you know what this file relates to please?

T was Chrysler's truck engineering code.

As far as I can tell, all the army engineering codes were T2xx for 4 x 4 and 6 x 6 vehicles, starting with the

T202 and T203 VC and VF in 1940,

and going up through

T207 / T211 / T215 half ton 4 x 4 WCs, 1941 / 42

T212 Canadian half ton D8A

T214 3/4 ton WC up to 1945

T223 1.5 ton 6 x 6 WC up to 1945

I've no idea what the T codes were for the D15 and D 60 - anyone know? and I should point out that where the vehicle was basically civilian pattern with army adaptation they stuck with the civilian engineering code, like T112 to the WC 3x and WC 4x half ton 4 x 2 trucks.

The truck with the T233 engineering code was a prototype big jeep, Fred Coldwell has this survivor;



but a typo is much more likely and they really meant the T223 vanilla 6 x 6 Weapons Carrier - as you can all count the real T233 had but four wheels......

I recognize those numbers now I see them.

Note that the T222 D15 was given an army code, but the T110 still used the civilian code....

Never overlook the obvious!!!!!
I was so pleased I thought I had found a typo in the numbers (not really pleased) I neglected to think of a typo in the drive configuration. As soon as I read Gordon's post, the light came on as I remember that 4x4 from long ago.
