M38A1Cdn2 CFR Number

Hi All,

Some of you will remember that I purchased a M38A1Cdn2 that was covered up and parked only a year after it was surplussed in 1987 and sat untouched until I purchased it last year. I can't be certain but I suspect this is one of the M38A1's that were sent to Europe or Cypress immediately after purchase as this is the 12th lowest serial number of the CdN2 series. It was held by CFB Chilliwack and also the 15 Field Artillery (based on the tac sign stencils I have found on the canvas top)

I was doing some "paint archaeology" on it yesterday to located the original painted CFR number under the door openings which I believed would be (and have now confirmed is) 67-07809.

I was however surprised when I did find the original CFR number painted in 1.5" high black numbers instead of white.

The three paint layers (excluding any repairs) on this CDN2 go as follows:

1) bare metal
2) red oxide primer
3) semi-gloss green from factory *note this layer had the black CFR number over it*

4) some sort of flat green *exact colour to be determined - note that this may also have had the black CFR number applied in slightly larger letters - but it was very very thin and I was unable to determine.

5) three colour camo applied by brush.
