A plea for help: HUP dimensions needed!

Hi,

Ive asked before but apart from a few offers of help that have rusulted in nothing i am getting no where. I am trying to put as much time in on my HUP as possible while the weather here in the uk is rubbish because as soon as it improves io wont have a lot of spare time. I NEED dimensions. I have spent hours and hours on this forum and the net trying to find the information but with very little result. I do not know anyone with a vehicle that i can measure and whilst my vehicle looked good it had been so badly modified i cant trust any of the dimensions that i measured before cutting it up. So i am asking again. Can anyone PLEASE add some dimensions to the attached sketch, can someone give me the measurement from the cab floor to the top of the post behind the front seats, where the roof would sit and could someone tell me the correct angle of a number 13 cab windscreen. I measured mine at 6.5 degrees, i have read somewhere that it should be 6 degrees but what is the correct angle. If someone could just run a tape measure on these dimensions, PLease.

Since the question is posed with desperation, but amongst the forum are all the answers the man needs, how about making him work for them?

When you post the measurements, mix up the units of measure. You know, metric and English, degrees and radians, survey chains, firkins of volume, etc.

It's winter and he has a few months to decypher the answers ... sound like fun?

I'm a surveyor, fully conversant in metres, feet, inches, decimal feet, chains, rods, links, perches, arpens, acres and hectacres, not to mention acre and furlongs. Then there's Imperial vs. American gallons, litres, ounces, milliliters, newtons and and watts. Yes, this could be fun.

The Barn Boys probably could take up some measurments and additional photos for you...... however....... 'tis a bit chilly and frozen out there right now and we are getting a light dusting of snow over the next few days ......say a foot or so.....

...... if you can be patient ... there are rumours that Spring is a few months away.

Meanwhile I would suggest you get yourself a copy of the new publication on HUP HUP and everything you need to know about HUPS written by one of the Barn boys...Rob Clarke hisself.......available from Service Publication advertised elsewhere on the MLU.

Hi Jonathon,
Could I offer a suggestion to overcome your dimension problem.
Are you familiar with Google "Sketchup". It is an amazing drawing programe you can download free. It can do all sorts of clever things and comes with plenty of help and tutorials.
If you can get someone to take some reasonable size pics of a HUP for you the dimensions can be measured off the photo once it has been imported into the programme.
It is important for them to be taken square on. You would need one of each side and one front and one back. Maybe even one from above if that was possible.
You will need a reference on each photo to enable you to set the scale on the programme.
I would use two pieces of light coloured masking tape with good solid black lines on them. Set them a given distance (say 2 metres) apart on the vehicle before taking the photo. The actual distance doesn't matter as long as you know what it is.
Once the photos are imported into Sketchup and the scale set you can measure off any dimension or angle on the photo. It is quite easy to use and very accurate.
I don't have a vehicle to photo for you but I know of a very good one a couple of hours drive away. The owner may aggree to take the pics if you can't get them from anywhere else.

Hi Terry/Jonathan: Mr Computer Illiterate here (Robert). Nice idea.....although I wouldn't be able to handle it! I pm'd Jonathan tonight to try and help him out with photos and measurements etc. My HUP ZL is pretty well there and he is more than welcome to photos and measurements......what ever he needs. I told him I will be at the shop this weekend and can email all the stuff to him. Worse case scenario.....I'll send it all to you and you restructure it in your fancy schmancy computer whatever. Hit the nail on the head, if you had asked this question when I had the HUP body off the chassis and turned on its side it would have been easy. But with the HUP finished it is tucked up in an unheated garage bay for the winter and it is a bit to cold and dark to get meaning full measurements.

Whose got their HUP where it is warm and light enough to get the needed measurements?

I think it would be best if you could measure up a HUP yourself. If the C8A owners in the UK on this forum don't chime in, contact the Canadian Register via www.canadianregister.co.uk, they should be able to get you in touch with some.

Jonathan, here's the dimensions. Note I didn't take them from your datum (not exactly sure where you meant) but instead used the rear face of the post separating the cab and body doors. See attached pic.

A - 40 3/4" (to floor plate at front of wheel well, same as channel under it)

B - 77" (to rear of wheel well)

C - 81 3/4" (to centre of channel under floor)

D - 92" (to rear of body)

E - 11 1/2" (from floor plate to 18 ga. outer skin)

R1 - 6" (radius of rear corner)

R2 - 2" (radius of wheel well at floor plate)

Well, I finally got a hold of Jonathan this morning Vancouver time via the phone. Really nice fellow to talk to. We were one number out on the phone number, but hey "s..t happens". Sent him ALL the photos I have of the ZL and will send more as soon as I clean out the back!! Hopefully, it's enough to get him started. However, I have to agree with Hanno, that someone close to him, with a HUP, in the UK, would be the ideal answer. At this point, Nick Bullock is the best long distance option.Both of us were quite surprised, there was not more response from other forums. So keep it coming boys.

Spent the weekend cleaning out the shop and getting the 3 tonner ready for the Chinese New Year Parade next Sunday in downtown Vancouver. We take the Canadian Chinese Veterans in our vehicles and in reference to parades.....this is a big one. Vancouver has the second biggest China town next to San Francisco, in North America! And the crowds prove it. Hopefully get some photos on the forum.

And to those freezing their derrierres off in the Northern wilderness of the Ottawa area and the eastern parts of New Hampshire.....tough noogies! Lovely to have heated shop. Condolences Monsiers Carriere and Waterman.

Of course Hanno you are right, i will be more specific in future.

I've now got loads of information and thanks to the brilliant high definition pictures from Phil Waterman, Dimensions from Bruce and the sunny pictures and continuing information from Bob Morrison, I have more than enough to start constructing the rear body. Mean while ive been consentrating on the cab area, it seems to be slow going but iam getting there. The outer windscreen frame had to be re-made, as it had been constructed out of wood and odd bits of steel and consequently lacked all the fittings which i have had to make. I have cut and fitted all the cab floor struts that had been cut out and made some new floor plates. The engine cover required some repairs and I have had to make two new hold down clamps.

Now a question that i cant answer, which isnt suprising. On the front of my chassis there are two mountings, one on either side at the front of the engine, pictured below. They dont look like they have been added ans i assume that they are engine mountings, but if they are then for what engine?
