Hi guys,
I was just sniffing around in some pictoral history books on my new neighbourhood and found this 1952 pic of my dyke. Some CMP's are rolling down it. On all 1950's pictures the streets of Rotterdam/The Netherlands seemed full of WW2 vintage vehicles: CMP's, GMC's etc. I browsed the Rotterdam Municipal Archives website (www.gemeentearchief.rotterdam.nl) as well and found the same story there. greetings, Nuyt |

I had a look at the website and managed to find my way to the search part.
What is a good keyword to find these sort of images?

Hi Keith,
You can type in words like: verkeer (traffic), transport, vervoer, a street name or maasbruggen (maas bridges). Somehow the pictures seem not copiable. Here's one you will like: Trefwoorden: Heemraadssingel; Mathenesserlaan; Militairen Catalogusnr.: 1987-689 Cheers Nuyt Last edited by nuyt; 07-06-04 at 21:40. |

First I am computer stupid and secondly my knowledge of Dutch is zip/zero/nada. I complement Keith that he got as far as he did. The photos are "toppen" so I want in too. Could you stairstep us to get to one of your finds from first stroke to the last so we can get the hang of it. Thanks as always. Bill

I find it hard myself.
Go to the site, go to afbeeldingen online click on zoekscherm fill in at trefwoorden: militairen go to page 7 pic 63 is the one: HQ No 1 Provost Company, 79th (Division?-sorry no expert on this one) in my neighbourhood (Rdam West). The people you see digging the soil are looking for fuel substitutes. Maybe Hanno can reproduce this pic to the forum? I dont succeed... Enjoy, Nuyt PS the pics above are NOT from the archives site but from a book. Last edited by nuyt; 08-06-04 at 13:16. |

Morning Nuyt:
Yup, they have it locked up tight. I suppose one could copy the photo after enlarging it and then scan it (my scanner still does not work properly) but it seems you cannot export the image nor save it to your hard drive. Pity, that. Bill Tried that and it prints just fine so the scanner is the only way to go but you have to edit it I suppose as you get the whole thing printed, not just the photo. Bill again.

Bravo Keith!!
Did you do it the way I thought it could be done or did you outsmart their system? Bill

I use a Macintosh but I think you'd probably have an option for a right click on your mouse.

Evening Keith:
Well, I do not have a Mac, but let us not go there. In my case, I can save it but I cannot retrieve it. My Windows monitor program refers me to some obscure site to see if I can download a program that will let me save and retrieve the picture. Past experiences having been rather bad, I now choose not to do that. Apparently, there are any number of non US/CDN sites that seem to have different rules regarding the downloading of photos/videos/text if you are not a partner with some sort of "outside" program. On the other hand, as I do not use any images I download/print or whatever for commercial purposes, I am quite happy if I can copy the image and if it seems appropriate, share with other hobbyists who do not intend to make money on the simple downloading of a photo. In any case, as regards this particular site and the image involved, "May the force be with you". Bill

Here's another thought, and Windows users feel free to jump in here... On the Mac I can grab an image of what's on the screen, and I think you have a similar option. It will allow you to copy what you see and then crop the picture you want for printing.
Hope this helps. Keith Quote:

Hi there
Two things about the Prevost cab 12 15-cwt: the positioning of the formation sign and the arm of service markings are transposed between the sign and the truck. the markings appear to be painted on the canvas tilt as opposed to the usual position on the tailgate. Better visibility? Steve

Steve:
Can't comment to the positioning, but I have noticed in several instances that prewar and postwar markings of this type tended to be more easily seen than on vehicles during the war. Your point is well taken, though, in that I have seen very few photos of the ID signeage on the tilt or body as this photo shows. Now I have to go back and see if I can replicate Keith's excercise regarding saving the photo. Bill

Trying something here. Same photo different tactic. Thanks, Keith, I forgot to resize it but I am most happy that my PC system has not been outrun by Mac.
