Here is a photo of a regimental commander’s vehicle from an artillery regiment of 1st Canadian Infantry Division in Italy. Note that it is not a jeep. The CO of artillery regiments were always forward with the HQ of the Infantry Brigade they were supporting, along with their signallers and arty techs.
Note that when 3rd Division landed in Normandy they were organized as an SP regiment. Therefore the CO's vehicle was an OP Tank.

Hi John,

That is an M3A1 White Scout Car. Many Commanding officers including 'Patton' used the White as they did offer a lot more armoured protection, a smoother faster ride and you could shut the door to keep out the cold wind. The extra fire power available was also probably an advantage.

That scout car in the photo is from the first 4 'lots'. The wheels were changed to combat rims about lot 5 of the production run.

Thanks for the photo, another to add to the collection.

regards Rick.

Thanks for that, i have an decal sheet produced by a company called - Whiskey Jack decals which were Canadian based. (Don`t know if they still exist) The Jeep is stated as a regimental Commanders Jeep.

The serial number is quoted as CM4230597. Also has the letter Z under the windscreen and 42 (in half blue/red square) situated on the R/H side under windscreen.

I now have doubts as to the accuracy, so could anybody give any further info.

Phil
