Default Carrier manual list

I thought an illustrated guide to original carrier manuals, parts lists, workshop instructions etc, etc might be useful and helpful to owners trying to find out what versions are out there and what they might be looking for. Some of the pictures below are mine, others have been sent to me for use in this thread. If anyone has other original books they want to include it would help complete the list.

Apologies to any LP owners but i haven't got anything that covers them, perhaps someone will post some photos to fill in the gaps from down under. Lyod manuals would be nice to include too. Fingers crossed this will grow and be of use as reference in the future.

I'll start of with British Chilwell books as its what i have the most of, followed by the Canadian books. I'll list them all in order then add pics over a few posts, If anything is added we can re post the updated list later on. Almost all books can be used for either a British or Canadian versions especially from MK1 and later. Numbers in brackets are the Chilwell catalogue number for British books.

British books.

Drill for the handling of Bren carriers 1940 (supplement)
Routine maintenance data sheet Universal or Scout
Instruction book 1940 (63/9)
Spare parts list 1942 (63/26)

service instruction book for Universal carriers 1943 (63/53)
Wading instructions for Universals 1943 (63/57)
service instruction book for carriers (63/63)

Canadian books

Operating instructions and workshop manual MK1*1942 UC-F1
Operating instructions and workshop manual MK1* nov 42 UC-F1
Instruction book universal MK1*
Illustrated parts catalogue 1941-4 FUC-03
Operators manual carrier, Windsor MK1* WC-OM2
illustrated parts list carrier, Windsor MK1* FWC-02

Please feel free to add to the above list with more books or the same books but different years or versions.

The black covered book, Chilwell No. 63/53 was a mistake in the ref. number. I have a hardback copy of this book dated reprint Feb 1944 and the cover is printed 63/63 and on the inside front page the blue stamped Chilwell no. 63/53 with 53 crossed out and 63 above it. My book is a Master Copy that originated from the publications dept of Inspectorate of Fighting Vehicles and has various hand written notes in it, for a subsequent reprint. It also has handwritten on inside, WO Code No. 3407, which was a War Office publication reference number.

Thanks for the posts. Nice to see the LP ones, thanks Euan. Any chance of a cover picture please Brian?

There must be some others out there? FUC 02 anyone?

There's a massive gap in the early Chilwell books, if the earliest British parts list is 1942 we've lost about four years + even if we discount the extinct MG carrier the Brens and Scouts were being made in the late thirties. I've seen a copy of a 1939 instruction book but that's as it.

Can we assume that the 63 prefix in the Chilwell codes is for carriers only and why the jump between the second numbers? I've asked Bovington for what they have but the answer was almost nothing and no master index for Chilwell books.

Default Saving

I hope someone is saving all these pictures so that they can have a pictorial library record of carrier manuals, cross referenced with Chilwell numbers.

Brilliant. Will look out any I have pictures of that haven't been posted.

Nigel
