Hi all.
Went for a drive to see my best mate who has just started a new job as a farm hand in the north of SA. And guess what his boss has in the shed.......... ![]() ![]()

The boss man said the truck came from NT and that it was an ambulance(not sure if that is right or not) He said his dad used the back of the truck as a tool shed in the garden

Don't think it was an ambulance as they had the speaking tube in the back of the cab, the ARN has a 6 not a G.
So many original bits there, very unmolested. Were there any data plates present?

No Keith i didnt see any data plates. Now that i look at it i can see its a 6 not a G can you get any details from those numbers? Are the data numbers on the engine cover? The farmer also said there was a Ford on the next farm so ill check that out later on, my mate is working on many farms and will be asking farmers if they have or know of any others.

Hi Shane
Yes the ARN probably can tell me something about it, the original identity will be revealed soon. It has an interesting history.

Well, the rectangular instrument panel and roof hatch make it a 42 or 43 model.

This truck was originally a "Trucks, 3-ton Portee with Bofors", possibly a pilot model.
This meant it did not have a roof, and it was probably converted back to a standard truck sometime in it's career. Because it was a C60L chassis it would not have had an ambulance body as they fitted the 134" chassis.

That's the one. Those were taken at Wesley. Your third pic is of one of the Fords.
Tim Vibert built a version of this truck many years ago.

That's what it says, the real truth can be established by the chassis number as the the front shell could have gone onto another vehicle.

This is what the entry in the book says:
'Truck, 3 ton, Mock AA Gun Mounting’, engine number PR3794896, chassis number 2844300428. Sold to GM-H. So as a mock up you'd expect it to have been reconverted to a normal truck. If you get access to it again Shane you can now check the numbers.

Should know in a few days or so if the numbers match, I don't even know if the owner wants to sell it. Any idea what sort of price would be the go for this truck if numbers do match(wish the gun was in another shed on the farm
