Hi All
Trying to help a fellow down in Brazil who is restoring a C15-A first one I heard of being restored in Brazil. Looks like a very good prospect for restoration. His first need is for 5 20" CMP rims/wheels, truck was converted to later Chevy rims. Does anybody have drawings for these rims? If so now would be a great time to add that information to MLU data base. Cheers Phil

That is correct C15A should have 16" but this one appears to have the brakes and drums incorrect rims of 20". Photo shows what he is working with So let me restate my question does any body have drawings for either 16 or 20 inch CMP wheels? Guss I'd better ask 6 or 8 lug as well. Cheers Phil

Those are regular 3 ton wheels for duals. Has the rear end been changed or just the hubs? I got an email from him too but I only have the one C15A. If it was a Ford I'd have lots of parts.

The hubs don't need changing, 8 stud Bedford rims are the same paten as CMP.

Ask how many bolts he has on the steering arm attached to the front axle egg cup...... has he got some funny C15a with the 6 bolts of the C60 instead of the 4 bolts of a C15a....? I can't understand how just the drums/brake could be switched without changing the whole axle. How about the UK guy who is importing all the CMP parts from Brasil.... surely he would have some local Brasilian contacts to share with a local fellow. Sure would be cheaper to source in Brasil than ship from NA or Europe. More pictures might be informative....was the wheel modification done while in Brasilian service??? maybe a CMP cab 22????? I can't be 100% certain from the photo; however, the brake drums appear to be the smaller C15A drums vs. C60 based on the clearance to the wheel and the width of the drum. As a result the owner would have the option of running 16" or 20" wheels depending on their preference. It would appear that someone opted to utilize different wheels at some point in the trucks history. Other than the wheels everything else looks stock to me.

Yes, sure it is the same fellow looks like he has the basis for a restoration. Part of the problem of course is communication, as I don't have any language skills in anything other than English we are going back and forth one question at a time. Starting with wheels and axles, he is currently looking at having some rims fabricated which is the reason looking to see if any body has drawings. Failing that does anybody have rims with out tires mounted to measure the key dimensions? To the issue of opening the odd emails, because of my website, over the years I have gotten CMP questions from all over the world. First I have some very good security screening on my email. With that in mine l read them all and try to respond with information if I can. I look at it as PAYING IT FORWARD for all the people who took time to respond to letters asking questions about and HUPs 37 years ago. Cheers Phil

Looks like a C15a with possibly a transplanted 2 speed T case and winch. Front axles are the small ones from a C15a..... quite restorable if he can find the part within South America...... shipping would be very expensive otherwise. Cheers

Yes my CMP have two speed in Transfer box, but not winch. The front wheel is original to C-60 and used in C15A? Because if yes I need buy only two wheel but not four wheel 16". correcty? And I need know about the engine color, gray or black? The chevrolet truck G503 is gray but I see the CMP in Black |

Thanks for the new pictures...makes it easier to understand.
From the pictures YES you do have a 2 speed transfer case. And you have a separate lever that connects to the front of the transfer case to engine the 4 wheels. Your truck has been modified over the years. Again from the pictures you have the small C15a front axle and smaller brake drums. You can use the original 16 inch rims or you can use the 20 inch rims..... both will fit. The 16 inch rims will give you a smaller more power and will be slower. The 20 inch rims and tires will give you a bit more speed but less pulling power and will be higher from the ground. There were a lot of CMP trucks exported to South America at the end of the war in new condition also a lots of spare parts. Over the years CMP truck parts have been found and sold to North American collectors and are still in great demand. I would suggest you start visiting junk yards near smaller towns, old lumber yards, industrial mining junk yards as I am sure you will find old wrecks that will supply you with parts.....Check Argentina as well...... At least that what it means in French... Have you tried to contact antique car clubs in Brasil and Argentina..... antique truck clubs..... maybe some 4 x 4 truck clubs ........ they may be a good source for parts. The CMP have been used for logging, mining, farming, all kind of heavy trucking back in the 1950s..... Some lucky people are finding warehouse full of New Original stock parts by the tons and exporting them to Europe to resell across the world. If you find some remember to give MLU memebrs a discount. You might be looking at a whole new career and business. Bob C

Forgot to answer you question about the color.
Can be gray.... light blueish gray.....or black or even army olive drab green. It all depends if the engine was rebuilt in a military worshop and what paint they had available..... I prefer gray.

Is that a picture of your truck or another truck?
Do you have a mechanics manual for the CMP ...... and a parets manual? The manuals are in English but have pictures of the principal assembly that would help you see how they are assembled. I think you will need another CMP for spare parts. Easier to take parts from a spare truck. That is why we have 30 of them here all incomplete and mainly for parts. The first part is a petrol/gasoline filters....usually too rusted to use. You do not need the original one you can use one from a modern truck. If you want to buy one the USA Jeep dealers sells them for about $100 to 120 each brand new. The other parts.... the linkage for the front axle and for the transfer case are only found on the larger 3 ton CMP trucks and not easy to find. Your truck has been modified with parts of a larger 3 ton truck...called a C60 CMP./ I do not have a spare and they need to be very exactly the same as original to adjust for the shifting pattern of the truck. Easier to make parts if you can borrow them and compare as you make the parts. I am not sure what or how the modifications have been done exactly on your truck.

The shifting arrangement on you C15a is similar to only ONE other truck I have seen..... big C60 with a huge radio box is with Gord Yeo in Goderich. Now a friend of mine as just acquired a C 60 Air Force type which I believe has the same strange shifting pattern. We will know more about it when all the snow melts around here. I beleive that you have a two speed system transpanted from a larger C60 truck. Normally you would have a shifter for high range and low range and 4x4 wheel and 2 wheel drive. I believe you truck is set up for High range 2 wheel drive and when you shift to 4 wheel drive you are automatically shifting in low range. I also notice that you do not have an emergency brake system at the back on your transfer case.... the bracket is there but the brake system has been removed. Do you have pictures of the inside of your truck.... the engine cover should have a plate indicating the shifting pattern..... would like to see the shifting levers you have. Bob C

Looks tired but very original. The engine looks like an original 216 Chevrolet engine. The picture of the shift levers. The top one with the round knob and funny bent shaft is for the transfer case and probably only moves forward for low range and back for hi range. The second lever is for the 4 speed tranny with the lock lever for the reverse. The third lever is partially obscured but should move forward to engage the starter motor. The fourth lever is very strange....... I beleive that is connected to the front axle and moving forward would engage the front axle....moving backward would dis-engage the front axle for 2 wheel drive. It has a lock lever on it which is not normal. This set up is not original BUT if it works you may want to keep it for now. Is the engine turning free or is it stuck solid???? When was the last time the engine ran or worked?? You have a lot of work ahead of you my brother/hermanos. Bob C.
