Hi everyone!
Can anyone help with the seating arrangement in an early HUP with 2 side doors and no spare wheel carrier? Is the bench seat used and if so how is it positioned? Thanks in advance James

Hi James
All period photos I've seen of HUPs show bench seat in the center and two single seats at the rear. Have see photos of HUPs with the two rear seats angled from the rear corners but don't know if this was a field or other modication. On my 1945 HUP I can pretty definitely state that it was built with driver co-driver single up front, bench seat in the middle, and two rear seats side bye side, reason I'm sure is the captive nuts welded to the under side of floor. If you need more detail I'll post picture of the under side. Cheers Phil

Hi James,
Yes, the three-quarter bench seat with reversible back rest is used in the front of the rear compartment. It is offset to the right a bit (how much I don't know exactly) to accommodate entry into the rear where there were 2 removeable seats similar to the seats in the cab. I will try to find some measurements for you. Brian

James,
The front of the bench seat is 23 1/2" (measured on the floor) from the divider behind the seats up front. The amount of the side to side offset is 6", i.e. the seat is located 6'' closer to the driver's side than to the co-driver's side. Hope this helps. Cheers, Brian

James, are these pictures of any help?
They are courtesy of Don Allen's photobucket page where you can find many more C8A HUP pictures. I last saw this C8A in The Netherlands decades ago when it was unrestored and unmolested. Its former owner, Marien Goud, expertly restored it and then sold it to the Canadian War Museum.
