Mark 2 carrier starter

I have been working on restoring my mk 2 an have been wandering what i do about my starting delema. Im not sure if i should go starting selenoid since i have only got a regular starter, would that a normal battle field conversion. I think the mk 1 had a starter button or should i be looking for a mk2 starter. Someone please help me make up my mind lol its driving me crazy

Mk-II* is a mechanical starter, with dedicated linkage into the front compartment. The dash board is specific to the MK-II*, when compared with a MK-I* that has a dash board installed push button.

Without knowing the extent of your existing parts, it is a challenge to answer your question. If I were in your shoes with a MK-II*, I would install the complete original starter assembly.

Easier said than done Micheal. The mk1 starter is a standard Ford commercial starter....millions of them out there. The mk2 starter is carrier specific. Is there a commercial equivelant?

On my mk1, I went to a 6V solenoid with 12 volts running from the rear battery box through the solenoid and to the starter. No starter issues and it starts first time, every time. But a field expedient? No. I think they were more used to exchanging lots of batteries and using the evil handcranks in those days.

I have used a 12V starter with solenoid and press button on my MK2* I am using the original 6V dynamo through a 12V regulator with 12V bulbs and resistors wired into the 6V gauges. Ron

I plan to start mine on 12v from an auxiliary battery from the front battery box use for the radio and then run the engine and lighting 6v from battery in engine compartment. Does any one know if they used a crab style distrbutor on them i plan to install a petronics electronic pick up coil inside one to eliminate the hassle of fooling with the points. All fits under cap so it all looks original
