Bugger!
I developed a crack in my windshield on the last road trip. Does anyone in Canada have a replacement M151A2 glass? Failing that, any recommendations where to find one in the US? Terry

Hi Terry. If it's just flat glass (which is what I recall), go to your local auto glass shop and get them to cut you a new one. I just had the windshield pieces for my M38A1 cut at the local Crystal Glass.

It is a wide single piece. Might be worth a try.

Agree with all of the above posters. Make sure it is AS1, and ask them to watermark it in case you ever have to go for a safety inspection.
I installed dozens and dozens and dozens of these windows back in the day. Do not use screwdrivers to work them in to the gaskets. We had a trick of using paracord inside the rubber gasket. Someone would hold the glass close to the gasket with the bottom already in. As you pulled the string, it would envelope the glass. If you were lucky, you would get the whole thing in one shot. If not so lucky, you finish by working the rubber with a nylon stick. A piece of that white breadboard works fine, ground to a rough point. Or we used to use the runner material off the 200 pound toboggans, again cut to length and roughly sharpened. Last edited by rob love; 11-09-17 at 14:05. |

Like Rob specified, my glass is 6mm AS1. Good suggestion to watermark it Rob. I didn't do that, but I took my receipt with me when I had the jeep inspected (they didn't ask). I carry that receipt with my vehicle paperwork, just in case The issue ever comes up.

After me waving my hands, guesstimating the size, and explaining what it is for, he drops in he used to work for John G at the other location, and had cut several windshields for John's Iltis', so he was familiar with HMVs. Whether the cut can capture the safety logo and text depends on where the pattern falls on the bigger pane of glass. He offered me AS1T, so there may be a minor tint. I'll ask for clear if he has a choice. I'll dismount the frame off the M151A2 and deliver it to the shop in my car. They will make one for me and one for Big Dave who is working on another owner's M151A2. While we are cutting, any other Ottawa or Eastern Ontario owners need new windshields?
