I thought I would share some pictures of my recently Acquired Charge Pump Boxes, these contained the No 5 Air Pump, No 2 Liquid Pump and the No 2 Screw Pump along with hoses etc.
Used with the 13,18,17 and 25 pdr guns. Over here in the UK these boxes are impossible to find and I have been looking for over 15 year so to finally locate two is like winning the Lottery. I have two sets of pumps already so the plan is to complete the boxes and add them to my collection. Rob...............rnixartillery. Last edited by rnixartillery; 02-10-19 at 15:29. |

Although I did not win the lottery lately or find a charging box, I did score a CMP mirror this weekend. Cheers Rob in Manitoba

Its amazing how some of this gear survives through ulternate use, these boxes had been used to store books for the past 20 years.

Well had another lucky find this week with a pair of limber boxes, one is for the No 27 and the other for the No 24,just need to locate a 24 limber now !
The intension is to complete both boxes with the internal stores, not an easy task these days. Rob..............rnixartillery. Last edited by rnixartillery; 27-07-19 at 20:59. |

The box pictured with the inserts is pre world war two and possibly a MK1 WWI box ,although the lid has been broken I will have a new one made and restore the box.
There appears to be very little or slight differences between the MK1 and MK2 boxes. Rob................rnixartillery. |

Rob, I have one of those boxes with all the internal woodwork but it is disassembled. Even the original screws are loose still in the box. Can you show some photos detailing how the prices are laid out so I can reassemble it.

Can any of you enlighten me as to the use of the canvas type material on the tops. Is that to add a degree of weather protection?
I came across a box recently with a similar top construction but a small square shape with no markings. Looking at yours it is a similar style of construction.

The canvas cover is, as you guessed to provide waterproofing protection. A good indicator of artillery use, though not universal.

Well it feels like forever that I have been collecting bits for these boxes and I am still short of a pump adapter and the smaller of the two pump spanners but the end is insight !
I have just got the five top trays back from the cabinet maker as these were missing from all five boxes and they needed to have dovetail joints , just need to make the internals to carry the liquid pump and then they are done. If anyone has the smaller pump spanner and an adapter spare I would be happy to buy them ! Rob...……………...rnixartillery. |

These still pop up in Australia from time to time. Usually gutted of contents of course. If anyone is still chasing one I know the whereabouts of one being used as a kindling box at a farmhouse.
Freighting them overseas is cost prohibitive unfortunately unless you can fill the box with other worthwhile goods.

I found a very very nice box (gutted) here in Canada, and bought the internals from Jack's box to complete mine. The price to ship the complete box from Auz was outrageous...not so bad for just the internals.
I still need to find the large pump for mine, but I think I have most of what goes into the box otherwise. |

Have you got an original top tray ? if so can you post a picture of it . I have a couple of line drawings to reproduce the internals for the top tray although they are not too elaborate . Rob...……………...rnixartillery. |

Excellent ! one thing I have learnt is that all five of my boxes have slight differences in one way or another and I assume this is based on manufacturer.
Another thing I have noticed is that there is no place in the pump box for the 'spare glass ' Box for the Pressure gauge No5 and 16. Rob...…………….rnixartillery. |

My box is Canadian, and I don't know who made the internals. While, for the most part, they do match up, the top tray is a tight fit into the main box. I squeezed it into there for now, but will do some fitting once I get to that part of the 25 pdr project.

As promised, some photos of the tray interior.
As I mentioned, my box is Cdn and the internals came from Oz. While the mounting comes pretty close, there are variations. There would seem to be a variation with the bracket that limits the lid, as I am going to have to relocate it's mounting point. Over the years, some of the wood screws that Jack kept with the dividers may have become misplaced or used up elsewhere. I have a lot I removed from Bren chests, so managed to replace some of the missing ones, but I am going to have to dig a little deeper to find some of the smaller ones. I note there is also a wooden cover to go over the face of the pressure gauge that is missing in your photos Rob. |

That's fantastic Rob ,just as I have in the line drawings ,I do have the pressure gauge covers and they have a round horse hair padding glued to them.
