This mounting bracket has no markings. There are no mounting holes, suggesting it may have been welded to a vehicle (?). The clips are too tight to hold a TL122 WW2 American flashlight. It is not very robust suggesting a light item was stored. I am pretty sure it is WW2 era. Any ideas as to its purpose?

Possibly for an instrument light for telescope or azimuth indicator. The instrument lights are just bigger than a D cell battery.

I will try fitting an instrument light. Good thought.
