Default Volvo/Canada History

Evening All:
I could post this in the Post WWII area but that does not get that much play as some of the other threads.

Today, I was browsing my Post WWII files, which I don't do much, and came across something that was given to me when I worked for Volvo in Canada.
During the period roughly 1970-1974, Volvo was in competition for the Canadian replacement program for the Dodge 3/4 ton range. Their proposal was for a 4X4 and 6X6 version of their 4140-4160 series vehicles then in use in the Swedish Armed Forces.

What I was given was a more or less 3 inch thick file of what I presume was the majority of the "marketing" side of the negotiations from pretty much start to finish. Dozens of letters, pricing quotations and quite a lot of photos.
95% is in English, 5% is in Swedish.
In the end, Volvo lost out to Chevrolet with their CUCV but it makes an interesting story as you see Volvo fighting to get the contract and constantly referring to the position that the users wanted the Volvo and it was a "political" decision to go for a 100% North American sourced vehicle.

I am getting to that point in life that I need to start reducing my collection of "stuff". At some point, Pat and I will have to get rid of this large house and downsize to something much smaller. A large part of what I will get rid of will probably end up on Ebay or some such as I paid rather a bit of money for it. Other items such as this one I did not pay for and would like for it to find a proper home in a library, the collection of a researcher of Canadian vehicle history who will make good use of it or something like that.

This group would probably be the best to help me find a proper recipient for the files.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers
Bill

Default A Good Home...

Hi Bill,

I hope you find (or have already found) a good home for those files

BTW ... the Sunray is looking much like you ... same hair colour and hairiness of head, chin and upper lip. Looking good! I'll be really sad the day he buzzcuts and shaves again ... but it will be worth it to see him decked out in uniform ...

BTW again ... looking at old photos of G in Full Uniform and all makes for a very hottie Sunray I've yet to see him in kilt

Marko... what she is referring to is the odd time I have to be on parade in battledress. Right now I am indeed furry ( ) but my head shall be clean-shaven anytime a beret is required....

No, Veare is furry.

You're being a lazy, slovenly git; unshaven and long haired, whatever next?

Well, this thread proves there is no honour amongst thieves.
My innocent but brave posting of a picture of myself on that other thread has lead Karmen to go into fantasies about men with no hair on their head but lots of it on their face.

In any case, my thread here has been well and truly hijacked and I am about to send my manuscript materiel to Sweden instead.

...Who us?.....we would never do that.....:,.....BUT!, MA , now thats a different story altogether....she'd hijack a toothpick before you could bat an eye...

Minor correction.
Should have said led rather than lead.
Although I am not "British", I do like to pride myself on my spelling. Pissy thing about "spell check" is that if you spell the word correctly, it passes muster and you don't double check it, even if it is not the word you wanted to type.

Now, dammit, find a proper place to which I can send this Volvo/Canada materiel.
And... stop hijacking my thread.
Bill

MARKO .... furry ones? Hmmm .... I think not : UNLESS it suits.

MASTER BILL .... Oh dear oh dear Master Bill ...

Master Sunray started with growing his hair on his head ... and decided it should be all-or-nothing, so on grows the facial hair. Such lovely sparkley silver which glistens in the sun (or lamplight ) and there's naught a bald spot to be seen.

Now ... I shall be a good Little Miss Ma and stop leading your thread astray, but I must warn you, these Occifers in here are actually quite unruly and disobedient and have a tendency to stray off track. Perhaps it is old-timers disease settin' in and they forget whose company they're in keeping with?

I shall try my very best to find a worthy recipient for your historic files where they shall be given all due respect ... (and have I not drawn attention to this thread tucked away where perhaps some have missed seeing it before my "leading" them HERE?

(Seriously Bill ... I hope you DO find good person to place that history with who will do good with it! I should think MLU a perfect place to connect with someone at least THROUGH someone here.)

When the Sunray wakens from his usual evening nap I'm sure he'll check new posts and will feel compelled to SPEAK maybe he has some good leads regards the files?

Karmen

Post Re: Volvo/Canada History

Hi Bill;

Might I suggest that you repost the Volvo/Canada History on the Softskin Forum - it will be read by more people there. The Officers' Mess is only open to certain members of the MLU Forum itself and not all MLU members have access to it. The Softskin Forum on the other hand is open to all.

Just a suggestion.

Cheers

Mark:

You are probably right and I have edited the post so that it can be moved to the softskin forum.
I do not know how to do this, so can someone do it for me please.
Bill
