Gentlemen: Hope all are well. During my "purging", I came across a "chore horse" that alot of you have, or recognise. This unit was given to me and I suddenly see that there is no fuel tank. A local person has advertised his skills in fixing or having replacement "tanks". Would/Could some kind soul send me photos via email of the proper tank (with approx measurements if possible). I would be happy to pass on any info fom this entry.
Kind regards.....Robert |

That's a good find
![]() There is a fuel tank visible . It is in a secret location , it's the cast base of the chorehorse.

Hi Robert. Like Mike said, you do have a fuel tank. It is the large base, which has a smallish plug with a vent screw where you add fuel. The tank likely needs a cleaning, but it can be detached to get good access to clean it out.

Well, as Gomer Pyle used to say..."Suprise Suprise Suprise". Well Wayne and Mike....many thanks for your help. To be honest, the unit was given to me 15 - 20 years ago and has sat under my former work bench all that time. I've never bothered to look at it, other then stickers and put it away for another day....with the best of intentions!! Something we're all guilty about.. A friend and MLU member has been eyeing it so we'll take it from there.
The reason I threw this on was that a fellow, who lives about 40 minutes from Vancouver, advertised that he repairs and has a stock of those old gas tanks that sit on top of small engines like this. If it's of any interest to any members. Again, thanks a lot for insight... Robert ![]() |

So then, the only bits missing are a piece of wood, a knot, and a piece of cord?

It has been a lot of years since I worked with these, but do I recall the knotted rope and piece of wood that Lynn mentions were only required if the batteries being charged were stone dead? Seems to me it had electric start (basically using the generator as a starting motor) .
We were still using these up to about 1980ish in the reserves, along with the C-42 radio sets. |
