Funny that you should post those pictures today I have been fitting new diamond plate on my Pattern 12 Chevy the last couple of days. and if you think about it with all the layers unders the seat in the Chevy there is over an inch of steel while in every other direction you have generally only one or two layers of 16 gage sheet metal.
Any body know what they used for the wood spacers oak or maple?

You can imagine how hot this would have been on a long desert trip in summer. All this and the occasional bullet or cannon shell flying your way. One wheat farmer told me the soles of his shoes would start to melt in his cab 12 during harvest.

Very nice detail pics Max. Any chance of Emma being kind enough to shoot some pics of the semi trailer hookup on the CMP semi for me please?

Well no not all are, the Chev bonnet is flat, But my 12 cab Chev has a ford bonnet, factory photos and in service photos show this as well. I have also come across this phenomenon in a number of vehicles that have been broken for parts; it seems to be exclusive to trucks that do not have roof hatches. I have a C30LAA 12 cab that also has a Ford bonnet. I have an un-proven theory that the early 12 cab Chevs were supplied with Ford bonnets due to tooling problems in the Chev plants. Having said that I have a 11/12 cab field conversion that I have broken for spares and that was fitted with a flat Chev bonnet. Anyone else noticed this? Pete |

I've attached two pictures of the hood from my Pattern 12 C60L as you can see it has the dome. And from the inside picture you can see that it only has the two wide apart holes to mount the Chevy Bowtie no holes in the center for the smaller Ford Square emblem. So I don't know how this fits in to Peter's theory. But given the amount of Ford parts used I would not be surprized.
Do the Ford Pattern 12s have the same hindge design? If so and they got the distances right they would be likly to be mixed and matched.

The original intention was that Fords would supply cabs to Oshawa and GM would supply chassis components to Windsor. However in due course this must have been decided as impractical.

On my cab 11 they used wooden spacers similar to the Ford pictured on the e-mail. The spacers on my cab where either ash or white oak..... obviously discolored and aged quite a bit the they had the similar open grain structure found in oak or ash.
I will probably reproduce mine in oak sealed with polyurethane topped with OD ..... At the CC2 when we took apart a Chev cab 12 I did notice the heavy.... at least 1/2 inch steel reinforcement plates..... in each corner area of the cab..... I had no idea at the time whether they were original or retrofitted...... seems now that they were factory modifications...... although I do not recall seeing any such changes in the service bulletins from Alex Blair. ???? for Max........ in the Ford picture of the pedal cluster... what is that little rectangular door in the toe board???? ...again if Ford had the luxury of rubber pads on the pedals what did the Chev have..... bare metal pedals???? ...and finally the legs might fit better the tight confine of the Cab 11/12 if the hair had been shaven!!!!! On the subject of shared Ford/Chev parts...... my cab 11 has a Ford grill and Ford door handles........ might explain why it wouldn't start........hahaha Bob C.

The rectangular door, is the door for the control of the air flow through the vent. Chev have a round vent hole with a butterfly control, as pictured below. Max |
