Default Part Number for Air breather for carb???

Hey All,

Just wondering if anyone has any part numbers (modern) for an air cleaner for the carb used on a CMP? I walked into my local auto parts dealer and when I asked for the entire unit I got a glazed over, blank look on their faces....and no it wasn't Canadian Tire/Partsource either. *SIGH* that's what I get for not going in when the older car "expert" is in.

Anyone have any modernish part numbers for the entire air filter unit....or one they've used in place of one? Either oil or paper filter, we're not tremendously picky (as the 235 and alternator kinda ruin all the authenticity already....) Any help you guys can give would be much appreciated!

Thanks all!

Tim

Thumbs up

Hello Tim:

I obtained a modern oil bath air filter from Vintage Auto Parts Inc. and it does fit the CMP carburetor. The dimensions are as follows:
Outside diameter of the unit: 10 inches
Height from top of lid to carb. mount: approx. 6 inches
Can be mounted to carbs with air horns of 2-5/8" and 2-1/4" outside diameter. There is an insert reducer supplied to obtain the smaller diameter.
The unit comes in a high gloss black colour and is manufactured by United Specialties Co. in Chicago Ill. Vintage Auto Parts is a distributor. The price in May of 2002 was $69.50 U.S.

Also they supply the pan and correct threaded mounting screws, that covers the flywheel (adjacent to the oil pan). From all the junkyard's I visited and searched their scrap 216's, this item was always missing. Cost was then $45.00. Shipping cost for both parts was $32.25 U.S. plus the Canadian Gov. share GST & PST. totaling $39.88 Can. No duty was charged.
Vintage Auto Parts Inc. can be reached as follows:

E mail www.vapinc.com
24300 Woodinville - Snohomish Highway (believe me the spelling is correct.)
Woodinville, WA 98072
U.S.A.
Tel. (425) 486-0777

I hope this helps you out and any others out there.

Regards Ted

Default Air breathers..... on Ebay

Bonjour Tim

Do a search by sellers name.....powerwagonjohn...... in early March to late april he was selling... or trying.... to sell for $79.99 US NOS breathers of various models..... he mainly deals with Power wagon parts but has a WWII Ford filter.. so he says.... he also had a Chev oil bath at one point.

I would suggest you contact him through Ebay to see what else did not sell and might still be available. He will sell directly for previouslu unsold items.

He is not cheap... but such is Ebay.

I have got Dodge parts from him and had good service.

Good luck and keep us posted.
