Hi All,
I have a 1942 Bedford QLB, which has lost it's original rear body and fairleads sometime since it's release from the Army in 1958. Does anyone have any detail drawings or photos of these parts, so I can get a better idea of whether to restore her as originally built? All the best, Paul

Welcome to this forum! I cannot provide details for the QLB body, but an alternative variant you might want to consider is the Bedford QL with US-manufactured body. Hope this helps, Hanno

Thanks for the info.
I've currently got a home-made GS Style body on the back, something else to consider is that the QLB chassis is shorter than the standard one, and in my case even shorter still. Looking through Bedford to Berlin it seems 1942 was a scarce year for QLBs, compared to the other years of production. I wonder if Vauxhall still hold any records or drawings...... I tried to trace the WD number at Beverley, but they didn't have anything at the time, all I have is the chassis number; QLB12686. It's nice to have the original, pre-hip ring, cab roof, and also be only the 4th owner since it's relase from service too. ![]()

Here are some stowage drawings of a QLB, to give you a better idea of the body. There were two types of winch fitted, a Turner and a Wild, assume your winch is missing? I have a 1943 QLD GS, bought straight out of service in 1987, from the Danish Army. Richard |

Thanks for the info, it's all useful.
Mine has a Turner winch fitted, although I think it's a slightly larger one than it should be. It's also been inverted within the chassis, presumably when it was used for timber hauling in the 60s. I managed to find some NOS crewcab door canvasses a while back, so bought them just in case...... Paul

Hi All,
Due to the sunny weather today, I got all keen, and have made a start on getting the QL looking tidy again. A good scrape and wire-brushing showed that the general tattiness of the cab was mainly cosmetic, so much rubbing down of loose paint has gone on this afternoon. Drivers side wing bolts came out easily, and that's ready for finishing in the morning... Anyone know where I can get a passenger side windscreen? Also.. I found a starting handle this morning........ but I think freeing the engine will require the head to come off again, ho hum. Done it before, lessons learnt last time will have to be remembered. ![]() All the best, Paul
