Just a question regarding the blue glass in the head lights of the Australian U/Carriers,I have a packet of them here and when i opened them up on each lens the blue was a powder with quite a strong smell does any one know what they used to colour the lens was it simply paint?

Ron the powder is a type of lubricant that allows them to slide against one another without scratching. Some places even used talcum powder. As for the smell, that one I am unsure of.... Next question is how many are inthe packet & are you willing to part with two???????????????? I am after two, one for an LP2Aand the other for a 2 Pdr.

Hi Ian,
Maybe I did not explain the problem too well, The blue on the glass lens ( Paint? Laquar?) had turned into a blue powder.they are differant from the rear lens that used two pieces of glass with the colour inserted between the two pieces, this surface coating on the front ones has broken down completely I have had them for twenty years or so, they were perfect when I get them and they have sat in my desk for all those years, I will check and see how many are in the packet, Ron,
