Cool Hand Luke

Just been watching COOL HAND LUKE on satellite again. There is definitely a '41 to '46, say 1/2 ton, possibly 3/4-tonner, plus a late Forties Ford? There are also two heavier trucks that appear to have former military bodies with 'cages' added. Anyone know whether they were ex-military?
