Hi all
During a conversation with another Carrier contact the following was mentioned. Certain Carriers, and at this stage we are presuming early ones made by the Victorian Railways, had a vertical line of rivets on the lower hull just fore of the drive sprocket. Looking through my numerous images of Carriers I could only find two that are depicted below. The Carriers in question are #595 & #634 Comments please. Bob |

G'day Bob,
I have also noted this difference in manufacture with the VR (Victorian Railways) Newport Workshops carriers. You will also find that the rear lifting eyes are attached with 5 rivets - one in each corner and one in the centre. The hull number I can add to your list is #731 - LP2 made in 1941. I have checked five different South Australian Railways hulls ranging from #1313 to #4588 and none of these have rivets (either hull or lifting lugs). I have also seen a Metropolitan Gas Company hull and this has no rivets. Jared |

Hi Bob,
Here is a pic of my 646, this had the rear rivets near the sprocket also the 5 rivets in the lifting eyes, and the square attaching bases where the tool attaching brackets threaded rod is screwed into. later carriers had round attaching bases welded to the hull Regards, Ron,

Hello all,
Here is a photo of Carrier #731 made in 1941 by Newport Wksp of Victoria, Australia. It is a LP2 and has round blocks welded to the hull for the attachment of tools and vehicle equipment. This vehicle has the reinforced corners in the rear of the hull and rear lifting points which are riveted. The hull plate is still atached to the vehicle, it is rectangular and bolted to the front right guard, between hull and headlight guard. |
