I never met my father-in-law because he as a POW was murdered by the japanese Feb 9th 1942 on Tarakan island off Borneo.
He was a Sergeant-Major-Instructor (SMI) with 7th Infantry Bn of the Koninklijk Nederlandsch Indisch Leger (KNIL) i e the Royal Netherlands Indian Army. He was chained together with two other POWs and thrown alive into the sea. An uncle of my wife, Sergeant Jan Claproth, was KiA on Sulawesi in the battle of Mario Tjamba. Another uncle, Warrant Officer Willem Commu, was drowned when the submarine USS Tang torpedoed the japanese prison-ship Tamahoko Maru off Nagasaki in Aug 1944. Stellan
