Hi all
Continuing on with images from the auction, these feature two Blitzs. Firstly to set the scene, Ada & I were on the road 3.30am our time but later on this scene presented itself. |

Beautiful to behold, she still had her markings. ARN 55410 and the Tac Sign I believe to be 6th Division AIF.

This one I know is a Chev. Sold for about $500-$600, new owner unknown.

I had a look at that nose cone and took note of the number but completely missed the tac marking! Time to invest in some glasses.

I wonder if it was the same chap who earlier picked up the 5 blitz rims ( all in good nick ) for $65.

This is in the main street of Kaniva. Don't the names combined with the occupations instil a sense of confidence in oneself.

And of course, here in OZ where old military vehicles grow on trees, one would not be surprised to see a White Scout Car for sale on the side of the road. In this case I know the owner and if anyone is interested give me a bell. Nothing financial for me, just networking.

Bob
Kaniva, is where a WW2 German D7 half track surfaced in the early 1980's . A friend was up there for his work and wandered into the Disposals store up near there . The store owner proudly reckoned he had a German WW2 half track at home . Investigation proved that he indeed did have a German WW2 half track, a D7 in fact . The thing was captured in Nth Africa and shipped to OZ land for evaluation . They also brought home a Horch Sd. Kfz 223 Armoured car , pics of it are on the AWM data base , taken at Port Melbourne . Back to the D7 . Myself and friend drove up to Kaniva in his VW bug . We drove south of town to a remote farm where we found the original owner , he purchased it just after the war from Hughes in Sydney Rd, Coburg . The motor was missing . The motor was installed in a racing car by Stan Jones who used it in the Aust. grand Prix . Around the sheds were bits of the D7, bins and shelving made from the bodywork ! He cut the hull in half and installed a B model Ford engine in the rear , used it as a crawler on the farm . The hull front we found in town , with mine damage visible , it had hit a land mine and splinter holes were seen on it . We found a tiny swastika on the transmission , all vacuum controlled gear shift , very fancy . We found German 9mm rounds in the hull floor , hidden in the dirt where someone had dropped them in Africa . I still have one here as reminder of that trip. My friend bought it , but too much missing to restore it . Friend sold it to a guy in South Australia, from there to Europe it went . Incidently, it was painted in grey /blue , not yellow . Mike

Gee Bob......... you make a grown man cry..
I am in remorse... on the scrappys toy....Nice straight bumper, uncut chassis.... square, A few axles... TWO MIRROR brackets! such all off to the furnace. How sad. If it was closer I would have gone. The 1500kmx2 was too far for me. UP at 3:30 AM!. Ada deserves a Medal. Ian

Guys I am no "Blitz" / "CMP" expert...but isn't the first couple of pics in this thread that Bob reports went to the scrapper a No 11 or 12 cab....and therefore a bit rare?
Sloping backwards windscreen and folding front seat. Pedr PS and I thought that the teardrop light pressings on that nose made it a Chev nose. |

![]() ![]() Cab 12s, whilst not as common as 13s are not really very rare. Cab 11s on the other hand are rare here. A rare find today is a CMP of any type with an intact rear body.

Hi all
Keefy is correct, the roof and supports are after market. The Tailem Bend scrappy isn't too far away from me if anyone is interested in recovering it or parts there from. Ian, we left at 3.30am not up at that time. It was a big trip without any purchases but the information I gathered along with the images made it worthwile, so bugger the fuel expenses. And my Ada is very tolerant of my hobby and she gets a medal everytime I drag her along on one of my field trips. Mike, a very interesting story. It is amazing the variety of vehicles that have entered OZ over the years and the remote locations they finished up at. Who knows what is still out there. Evertime I hear a story/urban legend about a vehicle I try to chase it to confirm or negate it. Bob |

G'day All, Thanks for posting the pix Bob, but i know I'm going to be howled down but what about the early Series 1 Land Rover that was beside the scappies "Blitz", it's way too far away for the likes of me but I hope it went to some-one looking to restore an early Land Rover, anyway have a good time at Corowa 07, I will be earning a few more bob for our lazy politicians super funds

What about the VW Country Buggy next to the Chev? Some VW restorers would love to own one of them, but I bet any German re-enactor worth his salt could turn it into a half-decent Kubelwagen.

Geez Tony you have sharper eyes than me! Nice pickup too . THAT VW would be worth the drive!
Bob, Save the Bumper & Irons from the scrappy .. If I never pick it up I will send you the $$$... It is a hard thing to get.. $10 seems fair! That is 5x the value of the truck! Ask the Canadians! You are married to the perfect wife if she indulges your 3:30 drives! Ian

G'day All, Yes Tony I did see the VW Country buggy with the young girl looking at it, but gee making it into a Kubel wagen would be some chop and cut to make it shorter in length and width, I know I'm pretty keen to do some jobs on Land Rovers but I think that one I would leave, I have friends who would have bought the VW sight unseen, I made that mistake once with a vehicle and will never do it again, anyway lets hope it went to a good home and not the scrappy, and for the farmer who was going to restore the carrier his name must be "Gunna"

Good to see the Aussies pick up on the locally made CB. I had a few of these to nick the running gear to make my 1943 Kommanderwagen. The steering wheels were 1950's and are worth a small fortune to VW nutters.
The Australian army had a few to test and a couple still survive today. To make a replica kubel out of one of these all you need to do is keep the floor pan and throw the body away. There is a fellow in Chezquavalphabet that makes kubel parts and body panels to suit, all you need is buckets of money. ![]() |

To all concerned - the little Ford was saved from the scrappy. In fact it was the Horsham and not Tailem Bend scrappy that bought it. Anyway she is safe. What do we do with it now.
BTW definitely Ford, see attached. Bob |

Hi Mike - I mentioned this at Corowa but here it is in all its glory. Whilst we were rescuing the Ford Blitz from the Horsham scrappy, I spotted this in his yard and thought this would be suitable for a "Fan of Lord Nuffield".

Good Onya Bob,
Glad you saved the little Ford. Its a lonnng drive for me now but in a few years it will be a valued item... ANY truck saved from scrap is a good thing.. I hope...... post Corowa, you get to save the other parts.. they are getting rarer by the week. Ian
