Would any one know if a Bedford tyre pump would fit on to the gearbox of a C15TA?
Was the pump a standard design accross all British and Canadian Trucks. |

The tyre pumps are certainly not universal amongst the wartime British vehicles. Austin was on the offside, and Bedford on the nearside, they are not interchangeable. As the Chev and Bedford designs are very similar, it may be possible to use, but again, the gears would have to mesh, so any difference in numbers of teeth would rule that out. The mounting flange is to a S.A.E. standard and still used to this day. Richard

I will have to send Dirk an e-mail to see if he still has any. I was just trying to save time and postage. |

I had not noticed before, that the Morris power take off is not to the SAE standard, ie. it is a 4 stud fixing, those it makes that one different. Just remembered the War Office vocab, listing tyre pumps, it would seem they are all different in some way, excepting, most have the standard flange.

Hi neil
I am thinking back a long way here but I originally intended fitting a tyre pump to my chevrolet and bought a brand new bedford type smiths pump. The stud pattern for the fixing is the same and remains unchanged but I had to take the puump off and fit a CMP pump because the gears didn't mesh... on the bedford gearbox the pump location is slightly different.. I eventually took the cmp pump off because I couldn't stop it leaking!! it was great for the air beds though! kind regards nick |
