Default C15TA Measurements

Currently just having finished a Model Master for a 20mm Polsten Airborne Mount for Resicast of Belgium

http://www.resicast.com/pages/35194_polstenpag.html

My next project for them is the C15TA Armoured Truck in 1/35.

While I have reference coming in on the vehicle from a variety of sources I always need more...of course. I'm willing to pay any costs for any copies of reference material you may have on this truck as I'm not just an information leech and respect the time neccessary to copy and send these items out.
Also any info on the Ambulance version is needed as well as it would be nice to offer both options to the modeller.

I'm in desperate need of measurements of the whole vehicle. All the armour plating etc. These are my primary concern. Without the measurements I'll be guessing and that's never good!

Thanks very much.

Sean

Default C15TA and TAA

Hi Sean:

You are welcome to come and spend a day crawling over our C15TA at the Swords and Ploughshares Museum (www.calnan.com/swords) and I can get you permission to crawl all over the ambulance in the Canadian War Museum.

In return see if you can convince resicast to sell the Polstens without the mount (just the guns and mags) as I might try my hand at making a model of the Mounting, Quadruple Anti-Aircraft, 20mm, Polsten, Canadian Mark I. If I get really excited I might also do the Mounting, Twin Anti-Aircraft, 20mm, Polsten, etc, etc

Cheers! Mike

Default Miniature Quad Polsten

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Mike still intends to build a miniature model of the Quad Polsten, in 1/32 or 1/35 scale.

Cheers! Mike

To help persuade them to make Polsten scale replicas for you, were the Oerlikon used in aircraft similar enough that one model could be used to fairly represent both original weapons? If so they could sell to both aircraft and vehicle modellers as well as the artillery types. I don't know enough to say, but Wikipedia claims the Polsten was developed from the Oerlikon......

Default Polsten/Oerlikon/Hispano-Suiza

Hi Grant:

The Polsten and Oerlikon were similar and used the same ammo. They were popular with the Army and Navy. The Airforce tended to prefer the Hispano-Suiza which used different casings (larger base) and it looked radically different from the Polsten. This is, of course, a generalisation.... I'm sure that as soon as this is posted someone will come up with a picture of Polstens mounted on aircraft!

The actual story of the development of the 20mm in Canadian service is well told in Clive's book, "Tools of the Trade". There is also lots of detail in the Army Historical paper number 23 (if I got the number right) which is on line under DHH in the DND pages.

The Polsten miniature model is already available its simply a matter of convincing the manufacturer to sell the guns without the added expense of the carriage.

Cheers! Mike

Sean,

Your Polsten turned out great!

If you send me your email-address through PM, I will send some stuff to you. I have 1/24 scale drawings.

I should allready have your email-address somewhere from the Polsten pictures, but I can't locate it....

Alex
