How many Ford GP's did Canada get from the U.S.A through the lend lease program? There such a sharp looking jeep, are there many left in Canada?

Hello James
No GP's were ever received in Canada as part of Lend Lease. Canada bought directly from Ford 14 GP's. Seven stayed in Canada and seven were shipped overseas. Only one made it as the other six were lost at sea with the ship transporting them. The GP's were spread all across Canada. Not sure if any of these original vehicles are still in existance, but there are GP's within Canada. Eric

To follow up Eric's statement, to the best of my knowledge, Canada did not take one cent's worth of 'Lend-Lease' goods from the United States during the war - we paid cash for any equipment we purchased from them, or engaged in straight trades, their stuff for our stuff.

Not a GP, but another early Canadian Jeep, the Bantam.

Eric's book "The WWII Jeep in Canadian Service" is now at the printers (Aug 3) and will be available by the end of the month. Lots of new and unexpected information on the acquisition of Jeeps by the Canadian Army in the Second World War.
